**Job Description:**The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced photographer to work in our in-house studio and contribute to our lifestyle, features and occasional business and magazine coverage. As part of the Features team the role will also include some editing, research and digital story production alongside your fellow photo editors.The ideal candidate for this role has strong journalistic integrity and can produce a range of high-quality photography assignments in the areas of still-life, fashion, food, travel and design, in a fast-paced environment with daily and weekly deadlines. Our scope of content requires great range, lighting expertise and an interest in shooting in a wide variety of styles and conceptual approaches.A proven track record of editorial production and visual conceptualization, with an ability to work with a small team, under tight deadlines, is a must. Your work will require great creativity, speed, organization and attention to detail. You will be responsible for conceiving of and creating compelling photographic content across all WSJ platforms, from digital mobile and desktop displays to social promotion, to the weekend print section.This position will be based in our New York City office and reports to a Deputy Photo Director.**You will:**+ Execute a variety of photographic styles to suit different story topics (fashion, food, gear, design, travel, business, finance).+ Utilize expert lighting techniques to enhance the quality and mood of photographs.+ Demonstrate broad agency and social media research knowledge, and the skills to work effectively within a large newsroom, with bureaus around the world.+ Set up props and backgrounds appropriately to complement the subject matter.+ Work closely with photo editors, editors, art directors, stylists, and models to plan and execute photo shoots.+ Implement ideas from teammates effectively and brainstorm ideas for visual content that aligns with editorial themes.+ Manage multiple photoshoots and deadlines within a weekly schedule.+ Adapt quickly to different assignments and adjust photography style accordingly.+ Conduct on-location photoshoots as required for specific stories or features.+ Coordinate logistics and equipment for shoots outside the studio environment.+ Operate and maintain studio photography equipment proficiently.+ Edit and retouch photos to meet publication standards and deadlines.+ Adapt to changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.+ Stay informed about trends in photography and apply new techniques where appropriate.+ Ensure that photographs meet the newsroom's quality and style standards.+ Review and refine work based on feedback from editors and other stakeholders.+ Efficiently manage time and resources to maximize productivity.+ Meet strict deadlines for weekly publication schedules.**You have:**+ At least 3-5 years experience in a photo assistant or photographer role.+ A background in editorial production work, conceptualization and assigning fashion, still-life and portraiture photography and a clear understanding of the WSJ take on fashion, food, still-life, travel, technology and cultural coverage.+ A wide-ranging network of stylists, prop houses and modeling agencies.+ Familiarity with web tools, content management systems, photo editing programs, like Capture One, Photoshop and PhotoMechanic, and video editing tools.+ Excellent news judgment and an expansive understanding of mobile-first experience and design.+ Strong organizational, communication and collaborative abilities.+ The drive to reach new audiences, an understanding of and appreciation for audience data and SEO-friendly presentation.+ A creative vision and enthusiasm to spearhead and collaborate on new ideas.+ A self-starter mindset - and can work independently as well as with a team.PAY RANGE: 95000-115000Reasonable accommodation: Dow Jones, Making Careers Newsworthy - We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.EEO/AA/M/F/Disabled/Vets.
