Overview:The School of Communications at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an open-rank full-time faculty member in Sports Communications. Rank and specific departmental assignment will be determined by the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to a long legacy of excellence in Sports Communications at Quinnipiac and will be at the forefront of the launch of a new, cutting-edge interdisciplinary major in Sports Communications, starting in the Fall 2025 semester.About the School:We balance hands-on skills training with instruction in the liberal arts to prepare students for exciting and rewarding careers in advertising and integrated communications; communications/media studies; film, television and media arts; graphic and interactive design; journalism; and public relations. Our faculty includes award-winning professionals and internationally recognized scholars with extensive experience in their fields. We maintain a portfolio of more than 5,000 local, regional, national and international employers to connect with, and our student media organizations provide multiple opportunities for real-world learning experiences.About the Sports Communication Program:The newly launched interdisciplinary Sports Communications major will bring together new and existing courses in advertising and integrated communications; communications/media studies; film, television and media arts; graphic and interactive design, journalism; and public relations as well as bringing in innovative perspectives to the study of sports communications by incorporating media/data analytics, cultural, business, social, economic, and health aspects of sports industries. We balance practical application and professional networking opportunities with a robust liberal arts education to prepare students for exciting and rewarding careers in communications and media.Responsibilities:+ A passion for, and ability to teach in, Quinnipiac’s new Sports Communications program as well as various journalism, sports journalism, public relations, advertising, film, graphic design, media studies, media production, social media, immersive media, or analytics courses, depending on background and expertise.+ Participation in curricular development for our BA in Sports Communications, MS in Sports Journalism, and other School of Communications programs. Ability to teach forward-thinking courses in media/data analytics, broadcast media, video content creation, audio/podcasting, and journalism/sports journalism, as well as in the candidate’s area of interest. Sample existing or planned courses include: sports data analytics; sports broadcasting; sports reporting; sports public relations/social media; sports newscast producing; critical issues in sports; sports, media and society; sports documentary production; and other related courses.+ Interest in developing new and innovative courses that incorporate emerging technologies, AI, AR, VR, data visualization, analytics, etc. into traditional media/sports courses with an eye to preparing students for new and emerging professional opportunities.+ The ability to bring high profile guest speakers to campus, and contacts to consult with to help keep curriculum forward facing and industry relevant, are preferred.+ Commitment to mentoring students in academic, professional, and co-curricular matters and pursuits.+ The Quinnipiac community includes diverse backgrounds and perspectives (racial, ethnic, gender, LGBTQ+, recent immigrants, first generation students, international students, religious denominations, etc.) The ideal candidate must appreciate and support the unique voices that contribute to a diverse campus community.+ All candidates must be able to achieve excellence in teaching (tenure track faculty teach a 3/3 course load, and non-tenure track faculty teach a 4/4 course load.) All faculty are also required to actively participate in departmental, school, and university affairs, as well as recruitment and alumni relations activities.+ Tenure track appointments will require the pursuit of an active scholarly and/or creative works agenda (publications in academic journals, books, book chapters, monographs, etc. and/or high-level creative works such as documentaries, podcasts, published mass market articles, etc.) as defined by Quinnipiac University, and the appointed department within the School of Communications.+ The candidate may also be considered to direct the BA in Sports Communications program, which includes coordinating with other departments in the school and university on interdisciplinary sports-related course offerings, recruiting, hiring, and supervising part-time faculty, student advising, and related tasks.Education Requirements:+ A minimum of a master’s degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Sports Journalism, or a related field is required.+ An earned doctoral degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Sports Journalism, or a related field from an appropriately accredited College or University is a plus.Qualifications:+ At least six years of significant professional experience in journalism, sports journalism, media content creation for television, broadcast, streaming, etc., sports data analytics, or a combination thereof.
