The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position in Studio Art with a specialization in painting/drawing at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2025. The successful candidate will inspire students through a fresh pedagogical approach, and demonstrate the ability to teach artistic skills and concepts effectively across a range of courses in painting, drawing, 2-D/3-D foundations, as well as in upper-level studio courses. We are seeking artists whose creative work and teaching is relevant to non-Art majors, as well as to majors in our two new art-based programs, Creative Arts Enterprise and Creative Arts Therapies. Artists with an interest in art and community engagement or experience with art therapy are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include a teaching load of 4/4 per semester, student advising, continuing scholarship and service to the University community with additional Requirements as per the MSCA contract. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, especially traditionally underrepresented and first-generation students, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity. Minimum: M.F.A. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) by June 30, 2025. A track record of teaching excellence as evidenced by student evaluations. Ability to teach courses such as Drawing, Intro Studio, Life Drawing, Intro Painting, Water-Based Media, Design, along with more advanced courses in studio art. An active and visible record as a practicing artist. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching. Preferred: Prior undergraduate teaching experience. Research that involves engaging and collaborating with students. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented minority students is highly desired.
