And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.****Job Description**The Times is looking for a top-notch, news assistant to join our Standards team.The main responsibility of this assistant is to monitor a high volume of reader inquiries, responding promptly and respectfully to some, and passing others on to specific editors for further consideration, correction or other response. You will make decisions about when to respond directly, when to involve specific editors and how to handle delicate situations. Strong news judgment, confidentiality and discretion are necessary for this role.This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.This is a Guild position reporting to the Deputy Director, News Operations.**Responsibilities:**+ Collect and analyze corrections data+ Provide research assistance to the Standards Editor and her team+ Help to compile and prepare the weekly Tip of the Week emails and other content produced by the team+ Be a liaison between the Standards editors and the editors on each desk tasked with overseeing corrections+ Listen and take notes during the morning news meeting for the Standards team+ Compile and write the daily print corrections+ Identify threatening or suspicious messages and notify the appropriate parties+ Keep the Standards team’s calendars updated+ Perform other administrative duties+ Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (ytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world**Basic Qualifications:**+ Familiarity with Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides)+ Strong organizational or project management skills+ Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills+ Basic data analysis skills+ Familiarity with project management tools like AppSheet or Airtable**Preferred Qualifications:**+ B.A. or B.S. degree+ A collaborative attitude and the desire to work in a team toward common goals+ An eagerness to work on a team that values trust, transparency, collaboration and empathy as key workplace principles+ A passion for learning about new tools and journalism formatsThis position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.The annual base pay salary for this role is between $79,364.85 and $80,000.00.**The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve.
