Develops talking points and/or remarks as well as feature stories, press releases, articles, newsletters, promotional content, and other informational pieces for the Web, electronic, social media and print pieces. Oversees research, writing, editing, content design and usability for digital and print media. Reports to Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Academic Communications.Essential FunctionsDrafts provost talking points, remarks, internal communications, academic presentations, andcorrespondence with engaging, strategic messaging that advocates, influences, and advances theuniversity’s relations, position and brand. Works closely with the assistant vice president toexpedite review of speeches/documents efficiently and effectively.40% of time.Coordinates, writes, and posts content which may include feature stories, personnelannouncements, press releases, promotional content, and other informational pieces for theWeb, email, and electronic media that may contain academic, research or other content topromote or the school.25% of time.Researches and collects information through limited library/online research, direct interviewsand verification of source materials for digital and print content creation.10% of time.Coordinates, write and composes social media content for individual posts and campaigns.10% of time.Reviews and edits copy, as needed, to ensure that it is brand-compliant and appropriate to theuniversity and school mission.5% of time.Assists as a point of contact for student, faculty, staff, and community members requestingprovost assistance through provost@wayne.edu. Review, investigate and refer to theappropriate university officer for resolution; provide feedback to the individual and monitorprogress. Monitor and review electronic correspondence, coordinate responses as appropriate.5% of time.Performs other related duties as assigned. 5% of time.Unique duties:Qualifications:Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English or a related discipline. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience).Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience writing web and social media content.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities· Ability to write and edit remarks, news articles, press releases, print, and electronic media spots.· Excellent written and oral communication skills.· Knowledge of the principles and practices of Journalism.· Ability to manage a variety of projects while ensuring appropriate tracking, quality control, follow-up and multiple deadlines are met.· Experience in social media practices as they pertain to marketing and mass communications.· Experience in editorial work.· Must be skilled in creating strong idea concepts and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting established deadlines.· Strong interpersonal skills are required for interaction with internal and external communityPreferred qualifications:School/College/Division:WSU - Wayne State UniversityPrimary department:Strategic Op & Academic CommEmployment type:+ Regular Employee+ Job type: Full Time+ Job category: Academic/FacultyFunding/salary information:+ Compensation type: Annual Salary+ Hourly rate:+ Salary minimum:+ Salary hire maximum:Working conditions:Normal office environment.
