WBUR seeks an ambitious and collaborative journalist to help lead our newsroom’s coverage of education in the region. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the education landscape and is driven to produce original, agenda-setting coverage on broadcast and digital platforms. The education team covers education in the Greater Boston region from early childhood to higher ed and everything in between. We aim to report in-depth, captivating stories that examine the issues, challenges and opportunities in education in Massachusetts that are relevant to our diversifying audience whether or not they’re connected to the education system. We seek out enterprise stories of impact, accountability and humanity. The team is also responsible for smart relevant coverage of consequential breaking news items and for breaking stories and scoops.WBUR prides itself on telling compelling stories in multiple formats, including audio, digital, live events and more. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about reaching audiences in innovative ways. They know how to build sources across a diverse constituency and drive competitive, enterprise coverage.The seniority of the position will be based on the experience of the finalist. This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with the SAG-AFTRA. The minimum salary for the position is as such: Reporter, $74,492; Senior Reporter, $88,868. Additionally, experience and internal equity are factored into compensation analysis for a candidate finalist.Required SkillsEducation & Experience:+ Three years of reporting experience in a newsroom environment required+ Education reporting experience preferred+ Knowledge of Greater Boston preferred+ Experience reporting for both broadcast and digital platforms preferred+ Fluency in multiple languages a plusCapabilities & Proficiencies:+ An excitement about WBUR’s mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection, and community.+ A commitment to ethical editorial practices, including accuracy, fairness, respect, honesty, and independence on-air, online, on-demand, and on stage.
