Position Expectations:Situated in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of NY, The Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Education position to begin August 16, 2024. The successful candidate will teach assigned courses in the following areas: instrumental (band—winds/brass/percussion) music methods, secondary instrument (winds/brass/percussion) classes, and mentoring/supervising student teachers. Other duties may include teaching music education courses based on candidate expertise or program needs. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of diverse musicianship and be familiar with contemporary issues related to teaching and learning music in diverse and inclusive public-school and community contexts. Ithaca College continually strives to build an inclusive and welcoming community of individuals, with diverse talents and skills from a multitude of backgrounds, who are committed to civility, mutual respect, social justice, and the free and open exchange of ideas.Qualifications:Doctoral degree in music education or Masters degree in music education or conducting with a minimum of ten years of successful teaching and conducting experience in instrumental music (Band—Wind/Brass/Percussion) at the PK-12 level, plus an additional three years collegiate teaching at least two of which are full time with significant experience teaching a combination of brass, woodwind and percussion instrumental methods, pedagogy and student teaching courses is required.
