LOCATIONThis is a remote US position with the option to work from home or co-work. We have a strong preference for DC-area candidates; travel and in-person meetings/presence will be required, sometimes including events outside of regular work hours.QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESPreference will be given to candidates that have experience in progressive advocacy and policy spaces, with a focus on fighting corporate power and supporting human rights and civil liberties.DPEF/DPA prioritize a rapid response approach and strong teamwork, which makes it critical for the right candidate to be reliably proactive in their duties and highly collaborative. The Senior Communications Manager will be responsible for regularly proposing media hooks, securing press coverage, and continuously anchoring and leading organizational and coalition communications efforts — often with short timelines.Specific responsibilities for the position are as follows – candidates will ideally have approximately five years of experience doing similar work:Work directly with our policy and campaigns teams to develop communications strategies and plans.Establish connections with relevant reporters and pitch our staff as experts/guests — this includes online, print, and broadcast.Identify angles and opportunities to pitch stories and do direct pitches to press.Draft press releases and statements, perform final reviews of the same, and distribute them to relevant media outlets and reporters.Update and build out press lists featuring key reporters across our issue areas.Establish connections at allied organizations, to collaborate on and strengthen our communications work.Oversee and manage our social media presence.Regularly upload press statements, press hits, and other work products to our websites.Represent the organization at in-person events.At times, act as on-the-record spokesperson.
