Job Description

This role supports the Priesthood and Family department Design team by providing oversight to the production and publication of the Friend magazine in 50 languages worldwide. Candidates need to be proficient in publishing-related technologies, correlation standards, and industry best practices. They collaborate with the design staff, editors, project managers, areas and vendors to ensure magazine articles are consistent in presentation and legibility across languages.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Understand and lead design and layout, press prep, proofs, and final print PDF production, tracking and managing multiple projects through various stages of process in multiple languages and tools.Work with art director and copyeditor to maintain the appropriate quality, creative standards and production standards within schedule and cost limitations in-house and with vendors.Additional Responsibilities : Responsible to help establish and maintain magazine technical and quality control standards - templates, XML, prepress, and color to ensure specifications are viable.

Reconcile and resolve technical issues with all the stake holders including vendors.Mentor and train less experienced members of the team in technical best practices, tools, and processes.Do work that regularly requires the application of independent judgment - working independently and collaborating with colleagues, departments, and other creative disciplines to solve problems to move the work forward efficiently.Interact with all sections in the unified team, and other departments to share information to improve cross functional workflows, processes, and magazine content publishing outcomes.Understand design principles and process. As assigned, help develop content concepts, and messaging experiences that solve the communication objectives of magazines.Can multitask, manage simultaneous projects, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.Receives design feedback and then delivers designs that follow brand guidelines in a timely manner.Responsible for managing multiple sections of the General Conference editions of the magazine.Solve business and communication objectives for a large project, accounting for the design complexities and the associated production requirements, including multiple languages and providing feedback to other designers, copyeditors, project managers and vendors.This role is NOT responsible for the content editing, writing, project management, or people management (hiring decisions, formal performance appraisal, time approval, etc.)Proficiencies:

Proficient in: 1) publication design and, 2) technical requirements associated with publishing processes, prepress, XML, digital, templating, and multilanguage design standards.Highly Proficient in Adobe Suite, InDesign. AI and PS are a plus.

Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design (or comparable skills and training).• Minimum six years of experience, demonstrated by a professional portfolio.• Strong verbal and written communication skills.• Critical visual thinking and problem-solving skills.• A team leader on projects that can inspire excellence.• Demonstrated leadership with large projects and an ability to work collaboratively within teams.• Demonstrated ability to work with and present to executives.
