This role supervises the Marketing, Communications, and Development Manager along with several contractors who work on an ongoing or ad hoc basis. The Director of Development and Communications plays a key and strategic role on the organization's senior leadership team, working to create and execute a communications and development strategy to support funding for the Annex's critical community services and supports.

A Typical Day in the Life...A typical day as the Annex's Director of Development and Communications provides an opportunity to manage all fundraising and communications programs in support of the Annex Teen Clinic, and will include the following:Develop, direct and actively participate in annual fundraising strategies and objectives, including strengthening the annual support program.Manage the process for identifying, researching, cultivating, and soliciting potential sources of gift and grant support.Lead the Annex's budget planning process and goal setting with respect to philanthropic revenue objectives.Maintain the fundraising database to ensure the optimal use of funder data.In partnership with the contracted grant writer, develop grant strategies, and submit grant proposals and reports according to strategy, grantor requirements, and the Annex's timetable.Meet with individual donors and institutional stakeholders to encourage maximum contributions. Plan multi-channel donor campaigns.Plan and implement the Annex's fundraising special event in partnership with the Marketing, Communications, and Development Manager.Initiate and implement a planned giving strategy, including legacy and multi-year giving.Execute all strategies, in conjunction with the Executive Director, with respect to fundraising from government sources at the federal, state, county, and city levels.Guide and participate in the development of the annual report, review all development-related communications, and provide input to other agency communications as requested.Supervise and set strategic direction for the Annex's external communications to ensure strong, consistent messaging, and appeal to the donor audience and general constituency.Respond to inquiries from the media (print, radio, and TV) or designate staff to respond as appropriate.Represent the organization in community affairs with targeted audiences to further the Annex's mission.Manage employee and team performance and support employee professional development aspirations.Manage the hiring process for positions within this team.

Who You AreYou have a bachelor's degree, preferably in management, human services, communications, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.You have five+ years of fundraising, sales, or related experience, including management experience, with a verifiable track record raising funds and/or closing dealsYou are knowledgeable and accomplished in financial management of organizations, with previous experience in summarizing and reporting financial and operating results to the Board of Directors.You have experience in drafting annual development plans and materials as well as in research and strategy development for individual, foundation, and corporate gift prospects.You have experience working in a diverse environment with people from various intersectional racial and cultural backgrounds.You have a strong commitment to the principles of Racial and Reproductive Justice.You demonstrate a strong ability to communicate effectively and with impact in varied communities at multiple levels, both in public and private forums, including effective listening and relationship-building skills.You have leadership skills that enable you to direct, supervise, and coach staff.You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Annex Teen Clinic's driving record requirements. Please note that if your license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
