Day to Day In this role, you’ll work on the design of a variety of sustainable transportation and non-motorized recreation projects. This may include concept-level design on efforts such as Complete Streets or greenway corridor studies, to detailed development of construction documents, cost estimates, and specifications. Specific project work may involve shared use path design and feasibility, on-street bikeway design, wayfinding signage design, streetscape design, natural surface trail design, park and open space design, tactical urbanism, and urban design. Designers will be challenged to think at a variety of scales from the systems-level down to specific sites or intersections. Designers who enjoy working closely with other disciplines will appreciate Alta’s multi-disciplinary approach that encourages collaboration with our planners, engineers, graphics designers, outreach specialists, and data analysts.

Qualifications

RequiredThis position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to:Passion for active transportationBachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, or a related fieldDesire to collaborate and participate in multidisciplinary teams2+ years of transportation planning or design experienceAdobe Creative Suite proficiency - InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop in particularAutoCAD proficiencyBasic knowledge of multimodal transportation planning practices and trail design standardsEffective oral, written, and graphic communication skillsAbility to lead, prepare, and contribute to the preparation of plans, reports, memos, and presentation materialsProficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointAbility to independently work on multiple projects and complete tasks at a high level of qualityAbility to participate in public outreach or conduct site visitsThere are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:Basic understanding of ArcGIS ProDigital rendering and hand sketching skillsAbility to prepare graphics and mapsMaster’s degree in a related fieldConsulting experienceInterest in business developmentMembership in a professional practice organizationSpecific experience planning and designing multimodal transportation projects or trail design
