Reporting to the Unit Dean SGS - BHS or their designee, the Instructional Designer (ID) collaborates with faculty and staff in the design and development of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses involving use of a learning management system ( LMS ). The ID will work collaboratively with faculty and program staff and provide recommendations on pedagogical best practices as they relate to the delivery of online course content. Topic areas may include, but are not limited to: course design, accessibility, universal design for learning, asynchronous and synchronous course delivery, assessments, and evaluation. A significant part of the job responsibilities includes performing regular needs assessments, material production, and researching best practices, techniques, and tools as they relate to online instruction. The ID may also provide LMS , related educational technology workshops, and hands-on training to faculty and administrative staff as needed and requested.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:Collaborates with faculty to develop and design online course content. Facilitates the process of developing and revising courses by maintaining close coordination among instructional development specialists, instructional technologists, academic stakeholders, and information technology staff.Evaluates to ensure high quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of courses. Recommends policies and procedures that improve the course quality, development and revision process, and promotes collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among departments. Identifies and help resolves ethical and legal implications of instructional design.Assists with faculty/student training initiatives including but not limited to: LMS specific training, universal design and accessibility training, online pedagogical best practices, and serving as an education resource for these for faculty and program staff.Conducts routine needs assessments of courses – content, materials, design, presentation, accessibility, delivery, software configuration, security procedures, etc.Acts as a technical point of contact for SGS - BHS teaching faculty, program staff, and affiliated personnel.Works with a multi-faceted administrative team, faculty and staff to enhance student learning and engagement.Regularly hosts sessions and opportunities for faculty to receive coaching to enhance their instructional practice.Monitors the metrics and vision for online learning as they relate to the overall organizational growth and strategy.Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Technologies, SGS - BHS .Position Status
