Summary: You will bring your expertise and proficiency in research, design, and customer advocacy to an established UX/UI team. This position is responsible for conducting user research, interviews, and surveys and translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes. This role will work closely with front-end development teams for a wide range of Smile Digital Health solutions, including, but not limited to, our suite of Clinical Reasoning solutions as well as contributing to our Next Generation designs and facilitating the entire process from design to code.

You will also be a key contributor and maintainer of our in-house UX Style Framework and will be responsible for ensuring it is applied consistently across your projects.

Responsibilities:

User ResearchLead and participate in qualitative and quantitative research methods.Synthesize research findings and translate them into actionable design requirements.Solution DesignLead and participate in discovery sessions and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product owners, project managers, business leads, and customer success teams.Lead, participate and assist with UX projects through all phases of product development, ship, and iterate.Illustrate design ideas using mockups, storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.Specify designs through wireframes and prototypes to communicate with engineers, customers, and others.Build complex workflows and navigation.Use analytical skills and strategic perspective to identify trends & recommend solutions that will help improve the user experience.Contribute to Smile’s UX processes and practices, and stay on top of current methods and practices.Customer AdvocacyDetermine user needs from business requirements and tech constraints.Ability to advocate for design thinking and user-centered design principles within the organization.Validate user flows and prototypes with user proxies and end-users.Deep understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices.Ability to design inclusive experiences that cater to diverse user needs, including users with disabilities.Comply with the privacy, security and confidentiality policies.Hold all confidential information in trust and strict confidence and ensure that it shall be used only for the purposes required to fulfill employment obligations, and shall not be used for any other purpose, or disclosed to any third party. Minimum of 5 years of industry experience as a UX/ UI Designer or similar role, post-secondary education is preferred.Experience within an Agile SCRUM team.Strong portfolio that demonstrates a deep understanding of what it takes to create valuable and meaningful experiences.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to transform ideas into clear and impactful design solutions and flows.Excellent communication skills, familiar with standard design methodologies.Proven Visual Design skills to create clear visual hierarchies in user interfaces.Knowledge of different qualitative user experience methods and tools, e.g. usability testing, remote testing, and when to apply them.Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture.Highly proficient in Figma including working with components/design systems, variables, and interactive prototyping.Significant experience building and maintaining design systems.Experience in user research and research methodologies.Experience in healthcare design is considered an asset.Experience designing for common front-end frameworks, such as Bootstrap, Angular, and React.Experience with custom designs that extend the functionality of standard front-end frameworks, such as GoJS, JointJS or React Diagrams (Role specific description).Experience working with front-end developers to ensure accuracy of implemented designs.Nice to have:Existing knowledge of FHIR and clinical data workflows between payers and providers.Existing knowledge of clinical measures in the US.Existing knowledge of analytics and non-relational data.Smile's core values include respect, inclusion, embracing our differences, and celebrating shared values and because our people are the foundation of our success.
