Social Media Community Liaison

Internews Network, Washington, District of Columbia, us, 20022

ABOUT INTERNEWS AND H2H NETWORK

Are you the right applicant for this opportunity Find out by reading through the role overview below.Internews is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure people have access to the news and information they need, the ability to connect and the means to make their voices heard.

Internews has played a pioneering role in the field of disaster, humanitarian and risk communications, working closely with community, humanitarian agencies, information providers such as local media, national disaster management agencies, community organizations and local responders to understand and support their role in the information ecosystem during crises. We strengthen existing and create new two-way information mechanisms that allow communities to access life-saving information, share questions, concerns and priorities with responders and shape the programs designed to support them.

Internews’s approaches are heavily localized, participatory and are implemented through a variety of tools and systems. Through these approaches, Internews sets up processes that translate community-driven data into clear pathways for improved local and international coordination and bring the community closer to responders and local media.

H2H Network drives change as a catalyst in the wider humanitarian system, driving efficiency, accountability and impact. H2H supports, strengthens and – where necessary – challenges major players and traditional ways of working.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is responding to the crisis in Sudan as it unfolds without much attention from the rest of the world, minimal funding, limited access, and continued connectivity issues, making it hard for aid providers to have a clear picture of what is happening on the ground. It creates challenges for members of the humanitarian community in their ability to coordinate and connect with local actors; prioritize limited resources by triangulating information that includes community insights in a continuous and consistent way to adapt their services; and live up to their commitments to community engagement and accountability to affected populations.

With funding from H2H Network, Internews’ project “Community Voices Sudan (CVS)” will work towards improved two-way communication between people and service providers, including national and international actors. This will be achieved through continuous and consistent two-way communication with people affected by crisis, relaying their concerns, questions and inputs with service providers and strengthening networks between national and international actors.

The Social Media Community Liaison will conduct online social media listening, engage with communities on various platforms and support the offline community engagement undertaken by Internews’s local partner. They will take part in training and coaching the partner on best community engagement practices, co-design the community listening events and analyze data to produce reports and recommendations for humanitarian actors to improve their interventions.
