About this position:

We are seeking a Senior Acquisitions Editor for the Baker Books team. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of strategically acquiring and editing books in the Christian living category. Essential activities include initiating and maintaining relationships with authors and literary agents, evaluating and presenting book proposals, negotiating key deal points, reviewing contracts, substantive edits of manuscripts, and working collaboratively with editorial, marketing, rights, and sales colleagues to bring exceptional ideas to publication.

The person in this position will report to the Baker Books Editorial Director and will be responsible for acquiring and releasing 15 high-quality projects per year. Our preference is to fill this position in Grand Rapids, MI or Bloomington, MN but we are also open to qualified candidates who will work offsite. Travel is required.

Qualifications:

More than 5 years of book publishing, developmental editing, and acquisitions experience

A strong knowledge of the Christian living category and a track record of acquiring books

An established network of author and agent contacts and a proven ability to network effectively

An in-depth understanding of the Bible, theology, and evangelical readers

Strong knowledge of the Christian market and book industry

Negotiation skills and a knowledge of publishing contracts and P&Ls

Proven ability to identify successful publishing projects that will advance our mission and financial goals

Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal

Highly self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and meet deadlines

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a full-time position, benefits provided include health, dental, group life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and others.
