This Senior Marketing Manager / Director will balance nonfiction and fiction projects—including both established and emerging voices in literary fiction, books in translation, and memoir/narrative nonfiction. This marketer will be charged with identifying sales and marketing opportunities to ensure these books and authors stand tall in online and storefront retailers. These initiatives could range from organic/paid campaign strategies, social media content creation and coaching, book club outreach, Goodreads campaigns, Amazon optimization, indie bookstore outreach, strategic partnerships, and more.

A marketer who has a firm understanding of platforms such as Goodreads, Edelweiss, NetGalley, Bookscan, Amazon Vendor Central, and prospecting tools (EduDataHub, MDR, etc.) and can then synthesize that information will be a high priority. Candidates with a strong understanding of social media at the consumer and business levels, as well as the ever-evolving media landscape, will also be prioritized.The role will have a good deal of autonomy while reporting to the imprint’s Associate Publisher / Director of Publicity. There will also be opportunities to collaborate across departments: publicity, sales, creative services, editorial, etc. Strong communication skills are essential. This is a wonderful opportunity for a marketer to help build an imprint from the ground up and make an immediate impact.Responsibilities include:Conceive and execute 10-20 frontlist campaigns per yearAnalyzing sales data and trends to identify growth opportunitiesAllocate and manage title budgets, likely hundreds of thousands of dollarsCreate and disseminate sales collateral across multiple channelsDialogue with sales representatives and accounts for key merchandising opportunitiesIdeating creative for ads, sales collateral, and other promotional itemsDrive paid/organic social media strategiesConsult on author social media strategy, act as admin of said accounts in certain instancesWrite, edit, create, film multiple pieces of content for author and company social media channelsRegularly dialogue with key internal/external stakeholders on all matters of the publishing processIdeate and execute strategic partnerships, including social media creators and influencersAdmin various ‘early reader’ services to enhance visibility with key bookselling accounts and constituents, including Goodreads and NetGalleyLead key sales and strategy meetings with internal/external stakeholdersPreferred candidates:7-10 years of marketing experience in book publishing or related industryProven success in consumer-facing campaign planning, digital marketing, social media strategy, and talent managementComplete confidence with all business manager applications for META, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, Google, and TikTokProficient with all major social media platforms and their respective business toolsKeen understanding of Goodreads, NetGalley, Edelweiss, and other book-specific servicesExcellent communication and presentation skillsConfidence in presenting to internal and external stakeholders, prospective authors, celebrities, performers, politicians, thought leaders, etc.Proficient with prospecting tools such as EduDataHub, MDR, niche media outlets, etc.Organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and versatile to handle a range of projectsUnderstanding of the ever-evolving media landscapeDeep interest in current events and pop cultureSerious about building a career and advancing to more senior roles
