BAMPFA’s collection includes more than 28,000 works of art and over 18,000 films and videos.Job SummaryWorking closely with the Chief Curator, this role engages with BAMPFA’s collection to make it accessible to the public and foster critical dialogue. This collaborative position works across departments to present new art historical narratives and critical perspectives, spearheading a new faculty teaching gallery and overseeing various exhibitions.Job ScopeBAMPFA seeks a curator with primary experience in 19th century or Modern and Contemporary art, focusing on areas such as Black Diaspora, Global Asian, or Latin America/Latinx. This position supervises curatorial professionals and provides guidance on complex curatorial issues.Responsibilities

Curates exhibitions and programs, researching and implementing special and touring exhibitions.Conducts research on objects, presenting results in various formats.Ensures efficient operations of programs, including documentation and maintenance of collection.Selects and trains employees, providing feedback and performance assessments.Cultivates financial support and collaborates with development staff for fundraising.Recommends and researches objects for various purposes (preservation, acquisition, etc.).Collaborates with colleagues, faculty, and students on exhibitions and programs.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications

Master's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Specialization in an area of the museum’s collection and knowledge of museum curatorial practices.Knowledge of collection building, ethical standards for acquisition, and current market trends.Knowledge of conservation/preservation principles.Skills in donor cultivation and relationship building.Research and writing skills for scholarly publications.Supervisory and leadership abilities.Excellent verbal and written communication and public speaking skills.Project management skills and attention to detail.Ability to prioritize teamwork.How to ApplyVisit the job posting on the Berkeley Jobs Portal (Job # 43419).
