All candidates should make sure to read the following job description and information carefully before applying.Who are we hiring?Sphere Studios is looking for a Technical Director to join a groundbreaking Core Technology department based in Los Angeles. As the content delivery team for Sphere projects, we strive to deliver world-class content at an unprecedented scale on the largest LED screens ever made.The Technical Director will act primarily as a tool developer for Sphere’s unique media pipeline, helping develop custom tools and techniques to integrate VFX into high frame rate content at extremely large resolutions. This role is directly integrated with the technical teams making iterative and final deliverables for Sphere’s internal and external media planes, working with our proprietary imaging systems as well as traditional DCC applications to ensure the creative and technical integrity of assets across multiple custom workflows.What will you do?Develop, maintain, and support user-facing tools and techniques to increase speed, ease of use, and quality of product in a high-throughput production environment.Act as a bridge between the operator/artist pools and the Core Technology pipeline team to help solve technical workflow issues and ensure that the tools are developed to meet overall Studio specifications.Assist with onboarding vendors and troubleshoot deliveries from a variety of content creation partners.Work with Engineers and Post/Project Managers to maintain operational cohesion and a collaborative working environment.Create documentation, teaching materials, and reporting around tool & workflow deployment.What do you need to succeed?5+ years' experience working as VFX Technical Director in film/television or special venue attractions.Expertise using Python, C++, and/or TCL to create artist-facing tools. Vulkan experience a plus.Nuke compositing expertise, including an excellent eye for detail and an understanding of color and light, edge integration, scripting, and setting up templates.Experience working in 2D software such as Resolve, Fusion, Silhouette, After Effects, Premiere, etc.Basic fluency in 3D software such as C4D, Notch, Maya and/or Houdini.Previous experience working with large formats or VR a plus.Ability to perform independently and show initiative, with an expressed interest in new technology and innovation.Collaborative, constructive attitude and proven track record of problem solving. Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a positive environment.Pay Range:
