Read on to fully understand what this job requires in terms of skills and experience If you are a good match, make an application.The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems to address one of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space mobility. As the TT&C (Telemetry, Tracking, and Control) RF Communications Subsystems Lead, you will help design, manufacture, and test our next-generation spacecraft RF and optical communication systems. You will be responsible for the design, production, and testing of the entire subsystem. Your scope will include analysis, specifications, procurement/manufacturing drawings, AI&T planning, execution management, and operations support for end-to-end communications subassemblies.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF engineering, satellite communications, and systems engineering, as well as excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop, execute, and manage the plan for the design, development, test, and qualification of software defined radios (SDR), Antennas and other RF systems for spacecraft communications.Lead a team of engineers and technicians across multiple product teams to guide the design and development, and delivery of qualified product solutions on schedule and budget.Work with Avionics, Communications, and other subsystem teams to identify needs for digital communication links based on SDRs and deliver product definitions that meets communications requirements.Serve as subject matter expert/ Single Threaded Leader on TT&C Subsystems, including digital communication links, SDRs, and other RF applications.Routinely collaborate with manufacturing operations, supply chain, and other teams within the company to ensure smooth execution of the development efforts.Develop RF product evolution plans and strategies, and execute projects for continuous improvement of our communications capabilities, and oversee their infusion into our spacecraft.Design, implement and record tests of the RF systems for requirements verification.Build and execute procurement strategy including supplier vetting, selection, and management.Establish procedures for verification of requirements and specifications against selected communications hardware through bench, integrated systems, and field testing to ensure interoperability and functionality.Architecture definition, including system sizing, requirements, and performance.Develop integrated design solutions, rapidly assess conceptual designs, and establish communication system requirements and performance parameters.Work with systems engineering to maintain system-level performance metrics including link budget, phase noise, and coverage analyses for all phases of flight.Coordinate critical interfaces to space relay platforms, ground stations, and internally to command and data handling/payload subsystems.Support Launch and Early Operations/Commissioning ops on console.Lead and execute peer reviews in support of engineering releases and first article builds.Minimum Qualifications:M.S in Electrical Engineering, RF, or related areas of study.8+ years of experience in RF systems, software defined radios, and spacecraft communications assemblies.Demonstrated experience in the development, prototyping, and testing of complex RF components for aerospace applications.Proficiency in fundamentals of RF communication system development - system design and analysis, free-space transmission principles, and experience in RF system modeling and simulation.Experience working across multiple frequency bands such as UHF, L, S, X, and Ka.Deep knowledge of RF components and concepts (radios, noise filters, amplifiers, RF integrated circuits, PCB layout, firmware, FPGAs, modulation schemes, forward error correction, GPS, etc.).Demonstrated Experience in leading technical teams with direct ownership of product technical performance/ capabilities, schedule, cost, and delivery management.Excellent verbal communication skills to influence a variety of direct and indirect stakeholders.Strong technical background or technical writing experience.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with software tools such as DOORS Next Generation, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill.Experience with SATCOM, microwave LOS, or other RF communications systems.Knowledge of RF circuit design, layout, fabrication, and testing.Proficiency in detailed RF signal chain design and analysis.Current Top Secret or TS/SCI Security clearance preferred.
