The Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver is a highly selective and nationally renowned music program with approximately 275 music students. The music program offers Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Performance and Composition of Classical and Jazz & Commercial music, a BM in Recording and Production, an MM in Conducting and Pedagogy, Master of Arts degrees in Music Theory and Musicology/Ethnomusicology, and other graduate certificates and Artist Diplomas.Position SummaryThe University of Denver Lamont School of Music seeks an artist-teacher of Trumpet at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to join its faculty in Fall 2025. The trumpet studio is comprised of both masters and undergraduate students who study in a variety of musical styles (classical, jazz, commercial music). The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of six, in-person courses across the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. We invite candidates with demonstrable success as performers who will be active in recruiting students and who understand the changing landscape and challenges faced by today’s musicians. Additionally, competitive applicants will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including inclusive pedagogy, as they teach Lamont students to become artist-citizens committed to the public good.Essential FunctionsTeach all applied Trumpet students including standard and auxiliary trumpetsTeach Trumpet Pedagogy & Repertoire and courses in one’s area(s) of interest and expertiseCoach/lead small ensemblesMentor and advise studentsActively recruit students, individually and collaboratively with colleaguesMaintain an active, dynamic performance careerServe on School of Music, College, and University governance committees as assigned or electedRequired QualificationsMaster’s degree in Music or 5-7 years of equivalent professional experience and accomplishmentDemonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and effectivenessAbility to teach a variety of musical styles and genresRecord of accomplishment as a performerPreferred QualificationsNational or international reputation as a performerAbility to perform in a variety of musical styles and genresProven record of teaching and recruiting at the university levelAbility to work effectively with diverse populationsDemonstrated knowledge of and experience with inclusive teaching practicesEvidence of active support of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and scholarship/creative workWork Schedule:Full-time, 9-month appointment.
