Summary The Office of Strategic Communications is the trusted voice of the ODNI. We are transforming the way the ODNI engages with the public, the media, and the workforce while investing in our employees. This position gives you the chance to do what all of those movie producers and writers wish they could - tell the Intelligence Community story from the inside. We are seeking creative, dynamic and forward thinking communicators to develop and deliver our story to a wide range of audiences. Responsibilities The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, capable of crafting powerful narratives across a variety of formats - blogs, infographics, social, videos, eBooks, and more. You are constantly learning, partnering with experts, editors, and designers to develop the best story. You are also a strategic thinker, exploring new ways to both tell and present information for the maximum impact. Finally, you thrive under deadlines, delivering succinct and effective products quickly. Develop and produce informational materials concerning ODNI mission, programs, and activities for dissemination to stakeholders and obtain feedback on the effectiveness of these materials. Develop story pitches and present them for consideration. Write and create powerful content for multiple publication mediums, including websites, media releases, blogs, social media, leadership messages and more. Manage the editorial workflow for your assigned portfolio. Conduct research to understand potential content and product layouts; analyze options and approaches for executing a project; make suggestions to senior officers regarding potential tools and strategies that will aid in timely and efficient completion. Under supervisory guidance and direction, clarify customers' requirements, collect information, negotiate production schedules, arrange services, and resolve difficult procedural and production problems that may arise. Produce informational materials concerning ODNI mission, programs, and activities for dissemination to stakeholders and obtain feedback on the effectiveness of these materials. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Mandatory Requirements: Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: Media Relations Event management Copy Editing Public Affairs Journalism Marketing Brand Journalism Social Media Interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to work effectively, independently, and in a team or collaborative environment. Oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to produce concise products that clearly and logically convey complex information and ideas. Analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think strategically, to identify needs and requirements, and to develop recommendations and solutions. Ability to manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Experience writing and editing using the Associated Press Style Guide. Education Additional Information Job Interview Travel: Candidates from outside the Washington, D.C., area may be selected for a telephone, teleconference, or in-person interview. Salary Determination: The ODNI uses a rank-in-person system in which rank is attached to GS employees on the basis of individual qualifications, experience, and performance. Individuals whose current GS grade is equivalent to the grade of the advertised position will retain their current grade and step. Individuals who transfer to the ODNI from a non-GS pay scale will have base pay converted to the appropriate GS grade and step as determined by the Director/ Human Resource Management. On occasional instances when a current federal civilian employee applies for an ODNI position that is a lower grade than his or her personal grade, the candidate's personal grade will be downgraded to the grade of the advertised ODNI position and pay will be set at the step that is closest to but not less than the employee's current annual base rate of pay, not to exceed the maximum rate (i.e., step 10) of the GS grade to which assigned.
