Our leading social change agency based in Portland is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Production Designer with fluency in Arabic to join their team on a temporary basis.
Our client is a mission-driven organization committed to providing accessible information and resources to diverse communities. Their work focuses on creating user-friendly materials that empower individuals to navigate essential services. They value clear communication, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative approach to design.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in adapting an existing 80-page handbook into the Arabic language. This team produces materials for Oregon residents regarding fee-for-service health benefits. They are focused on creating user-friendly materials for an older demographic with low literacy. You will be responsible for flowing translated copy into a pre-designed InDesign file, ensuring typographic accuracy, visual consistency, and adherence to the established design system. Given the urgency and the niche requirement of language skills, the pace of work is fast-paced and requires a talent who can hit the ground running. The team values clear communication, accuracy, and a strong work ethic.
This project needs to be completed by September 30th, with availability for a few weeks after once the file is sent to the printer for any additional edits.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in the target language, have experience with design and formatting, and be able to work efficiently on a tight deadline. Note that this will lean more toward production work than conceptual design work. The booklet design is already signed off and approved so you will basically be resonsible for flowing in new copy.
What you'll do:* Collaborate with the project team to understand project scope and objectives* Flow translated copy into an existing InDesign file, ensuring accurate language formatting* Maintain typographic consistency and visual fidelity to the established design system* Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency across all materials* Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines* Communicate clearly and proactively with the client regarding project progress and any challenges
What you bring:* Fluency in Arabic (written and reading)* 3+ years of experience in a production design role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in InDesign* Experience working with translated materials, particularly in right-to-left languages* Exceptional typography skills and a keen eye for detail* Strong understanding of print production processes* Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills* Ability to work independently and as part of a team* Ability to receive feedback constructively and incorporate revisions efficiently
The target hiring compensation range for this role is the equivalent of $40.00 to $50.00 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
