The Scientific Writer/Editor will lead the formation of a scientific writing core, taking on responsibility for assessing needs, developing intakes, and working closely with faculty and leadership around disseminating in the peer-reviewed literature.Other duties include editing and proofreading manuscripts, providing scientific input on presentations of methods and results, assisting faculty in their response to reviewer comments, organizing/hosting writing sessions for research faculty, and developing/implementing education about scientific writing, such as the use of AI in scientific manuscripts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific writing and the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible content.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Works with faculty and staff to organize and draft scientific manuscripts and manuscripts that detail hospital-led innovations.Works with faculty and staff to set timelines for writing and submission. Collaborates with researchers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy, clarity, and relevance of scientific content.Edits and proofreads manuscripts in a broad range of scientific disciplines, identifies possible problem areas/opportunities where additional scientific content would improve manuscripts, and develops strategies for addressing.Leads the formation and ongoing development of a scientific writing core to build BMC research writing capacity and promote the dissemination of BMC research in peer-reviewed literature.Works with faculty and staff to write responses to reviewer comments. Identifies opportunities for additional analysis and advises on type, nature, and amount of appropriate content to thoroughly address reviewer comments. Helps develop plans for conducting additional analytic work, if needed.Conducts literature reviews and research to support content development and stays abreast of the latest scientific advancements and trends. Provides editorial support for scientific documents.JOB REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION:MSc required; PhD strongly preferred.EXPERIENCE:MSc: 7-10 years of related work experience.PhD: 5-7 years of related work experience.Both: At least 3-5 years of writing and/or editing experience.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Advanced proficiency in the use of desktop productivity tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver required products in a timely manner.
