FOX Sports is seeking a Ticker Copy Editor on a full-time basis who will be responsible for writing and editing headlines as well as updating content for FS1, FS2 and FOX Broadcasting Company (FBC). While working on the network’s various Tickers, the Ticket Copy Editor will be responsible for monitoring daily scores and news across the entire sports landscape in order to produce alerts, results, and other game-related information that will appear on FS1, FS2, and FOX. Candidates should not only have a deep interest in all sports and a wide breadth of knowledge to inform their news judgment, but they also should know how to prioritize deadlines amid a number of day-to-day tasks. The successful employee will be able to make good decisions quickly while proving that they are meticulous copy editors and fact checkers.A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIESNewsgathering, fact-checking, headline writing, and copy editing under intense minute-by-minute deadline conditionsMonitoring the sports calendar and live events so that the Ticker always presents timely news, scores and relevant information to viewersEnsuring all content in the Ticker is well-researched, logically structured, grammatically correct, and follows the department’s editorial styleChecking headlines and text before publishing for any potential legal issues, such as libelous statements or breach of copyrightWriting and enabling alerts for breaking news, network programming changes and other significant sports updatesManaging and scheduling promotional graphics to appear in the Ticker at designated times throughout the day and week, coordinating with the Marketing department on the content, timing, and deliveryInterfacing with the Creative Services, Operations, Graphics, and Digital departments to improve the Ticker from a design, operational, and user-experience perspective while also helping to conceive new product featuresAssisting in overseeing freelance employees by maintaining the department’s editorial guidelines and procedures while also collaborating with manager and other full-time staff members on a regular basisWHAT YOU WILL NEED5+ years of editorial experience, preferably in the online or TV mediumExcellent written and verbal communication and organizational skillsFamiliar working with Content Management Systems (CMS) and online publishing toolsStrong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)Well-versed using social media, internet, and other internal sources (i.e. AP sports wire) for newsgathering and research purposesStrong critical thinking, news judgment, decision-making, planning, detail orientation and a sense of urgencyProven sports knowledgeWilling to work nights, weekends and holidays as neededNICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKERBS/BA in Journalism, Communications, English or other related degreeLocated in the greater Los Angeles areaWe are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
