The ACLU seeks a full-time position of

Social Media Editor

in the

Communications & Marketing Department

of the ACLU’s National office in

New York, NY

or

Washington, DC . This is a

hybrid role

that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

The Communications & Marketing Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and also illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the

Director, Social Media and Store , the

Social Media Editor

will be responsible for producing, editing, and evaluating the performance of organic social content for our more than 6.8M followers across platforms.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

Creating social media content for the ACLU during proactive and reactive moments, producing content that amplifies, educates and drives attention to the proactive and reactive work of our organization, including during off-hours when necessary for high-priority and “breaking news” momentsReporting on and providing strategic insights on social media and online engagement initiatives, campaigns, and trendsManaging ACLU social media communitiesResponding to direct messages and comments across social media platformsReporting on emerging trends or conversations with insights for stakeholdersHelping the social media and merchandise team quickly adapt content in high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of our advocacy, programmatic and legislative work, and to generate email list and social media audience growth, and fundraisingHelping develop advertising content for Instagram and Facebook as neededCollaborating on mobile video editing and copywriting with an emphasis on digital accessibilityAssisting with weekend web and social media publishing as part of a rotating coverage scheduleAssisting with special projects including online actions and advocacy campaigns, live social media events, and communications campaigns to support ACLU programsMonitoring social media trends, and emerging practices. Reporting on activities in the social universe back to the organization to highlight key moments or best practices of which the ACLU should be awareStaying up-to-date and informed about ACLU’s issues and positions, and have an understanding of cultural conversations around social justiceEngaging in special projects and other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring

Experience producing Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or TikTok content for advocacy, political, communications, marketing, development or related fields requiredStrong experience operating on Threads or related trending and emerging social platforms preferredA passion for online advocacy and commitment to the mission of the ACLUDemonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships; strong communication skills - both written and verbal.Proven ability to effectively coordinate social media content on deadline

Compensation

The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU's compensation philosophy there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $89,791 (Level I), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. This position is subject to a hybrid schedule of 2 days/week or 8 days/month in-office.
