The Instructional Designer is responsible for working collaboratively with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners in the systematic design, development, and delivery of instructional materials and experiences, both digital & physical, in a consistent and reliable fashion that enables efficient, effective, and engaging adult learning.

The role will be responsible for creating and executing the organization's design and development process, reviewing, innovating, and expanding Claims training collateral - implementing advancements and quantifying success.

Additionally, the Designer will act as a peer mentor for trainers on adult learning and instructional design best practices. Finally, the individual will report to the Director of IA Claims Training and collaborate closely with colleagues within the Claims team as well as Customer Solutions and Human Resources.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling course content and engaging learning activities to help learners retain and apply what they've learned.
  • Design, implement, and assess effective educational materials for all types of learners.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to determine the training requirements and instructional end goals of the target audience before creating content.
  • Use tried-and-true instructional design theories and techniques - including writing compelling, measurable learning objectives, managing cognitive load, and creating environments that are conducive to adult learning.
  • Engage in instructional research and analysis of learners and situations.
  • Provide exercises and activities that will help learners learn more effectively.
  • Create multimedia learning aids such as audio, video, simulations, role-plays, games, and other relevant delivery platforms.
  • Determine the criteria for evaluating a learner's performance and create assessment tools.
  • Lead instructional design project management to achieve project goals, meet deadlines and ensure quality outcomes, including learning asset accuracy, relevancy, and governance.
  • Act as a SME to inform, help build and oversee implementation of a standardized methodology like ADDIE (analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate) that can be replicated across the organization and guide innovation of best-in-class L&D methodologies.
  • Develop a sustainable process for capturing employee's training certifications through their employee professional journey.
  • Collaborate and communicate across the enterprise, inclusive of Customer Solutions, Marketing, Legal, HR, and Regulatory, to incorporate SME feedback into learning materials, ensuring accuracy and relevancy.
  • Revolutionize existing learning materials to align to adult learning principles and use multimedia design techniques, including graphics, videos, audio files, and animation, across modalities.

Core Skills:
  • Visual design and creative expertise: Articulate Storyline 360, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Premiere Pro), Camtasia or other visual design tools
  • Strong writing skills, including scripts, storyboarding, storytelling, facilitator guides, learning objectives, assessments and email communication
  • Ability to apply instructional design and adult learning science to meet learner's needs and improve business outcomes
  • LMS, CMS, KMS experience to effectively govern learning and knowledge assets
  • Project management to successfully oversee the end-to-end design process
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving to effectively analyze learning data, assess needs, design to those needs, and evaluate results


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or related professional experience in Adult Learning, Leadership Development, Organization Development, Psychology, Human Systems or Instructional Systems Design


Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design techniques (including classroom & virtual content); knowledge of adult learning theories; expertise in developing instructional resources
  • Experience with collaboration tools, digital instructional tools & Learning Management Systems
