We are seeking a Director of Content Management to help us uncover and share the stories of the Brigham to inspire philanthropy.The Director is a critical member of the Content Management team, partnering with the team’s Content Officer and Senior Director to produce content for cultivation, fundraising, and stewardship communications that inspire and educate donors, prospective donors, and the general public.Reporting to the Senior Director, Content Management, the Director is an expert writer and editor with the proven track record to develop content for a wide range of platforms and audiences—from brief, “snackable” content for the web, to inspiring event remarks for speakers, to longer-form narratives for donor and grateful patient profiles.With an outstanding eye for detail and a knack for storytelling, the Director will work with BDO colleagues to spearhead the timely and strategic development of content for a range of programs and initiatives, including events, our giving site and e-newsletter, annual giving and gift planning appeals, and other storytelling that shines a light on the work of the Brigham and inspires philanthropy. We recognize the need for ongoing learning in this domain, and are committed to continuing this work, embracing the full spectrum of human diversity: race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and national origin.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Research, write, and edit a wide range of development communications materials, including but not limited to:Content for high visibility fundraising and cultivation events, including speaker remarks and content for event collateral.Content for appeals to inspire philanthropy for the Brigham.Grateful patient and donor profiles—in both long and short form for web—that underscore the Brigham’s life-changing mission and the importance of philanthropy.Play a key role in preparing speakers—e.g., Brigham leadership, caregivers, administrators, patients, and donors—for BDO events, including assisting with developing/finessing slides and other presentation materials.Working with the Senior Director of Content and the Media Relations Team, develop and implement promotion and publicity plans for gift announcements and fundraising events—including development of news releases, social posts, and news packages.Partner with members of the Content Team, Digital Engagement Team, and others to create and update content for our giving site, bwhgiving.org, that taps into the full potential of this newly revamped site and creates ladders of engagement for both new and repeat visitors.Working with the Content Officer and Digital Engagement Team, develop and implement editorial strategy for bi-monthly e-newsletter, including crafting original content, that uses data to optimize user experience.Serve as Content Team’s lead in our partnership with Direct Marketing Team to help identify patient stories, breakthroughs, and other compelling content for direct marketing appeals.Apply skills as editor to reinforce BDO’s style standards, including orchestrating the development and implementation of a BDO style guide.Other writing projects as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum 7 + years of experience in roles that require strong written and verbal skills, multidisciplinary strategic thinking, and leadership in a communications role.A self-starter who excels in a dynamic, fast paced environment.Excellent command of language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.Outstanding proofreading and editing skills with strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors and inconsistencies. Proficient in using proofreading tools and software.Conversant in graphic design; a storyteller with an ear to find what is human and relevant and recount it convincingly for an intelligent audience in a way that uniquely reflects the character of a distinctive institution.Ability to write for the web and knowledge of what resonates with audiences.Ability to develop messaging, solve problems, receive and incorporate feedback, and produce quality work in a client-service oriented environment.Appreciation for and dedication to the mission of the Brigham and the ability to effectively articulate those missions and visions.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Able to collaborate as a standout colleague and interact successfully with all levels of staff.Ability to stay calm and poised under pressure and remain focused in a constantly evolving environment.Comfort level working in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines and evolving priorities.Must be conversant in science and technology and a superb interviewer and researcher who is able to uncover substantive raw material.An understanding of academic institutions, philanthropy, and/or science preferred.Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to extract and analyze appropriate data and communicate accordingly.Excellent organizational and project management skills.
