Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a Senior Data Center Design Manager, AMER on the Global Data Center Design and Construction team reporting directly to the DCE Global Design & Construction (D&C) organization lead. As a Senior Design Manager, you will manage, direct, and coordinate teams of architectural, structural, civil, MEP consultants along with required specialty consultants and internal SMEs to develop and issue complete data center design packages in accordance with our global data center design specifications and standards and all applicable code and regulatory requirements. Oversee and manage zoning, entitlement, and permitting process, including any specialty permitting requirements, to ensure permit approvals are secured prior to the commencement of construction date in alignment with the project schedule. Engage with selected general and MEP contractors to provide progress design constructability, cost, and schedule reviews and input. Oversee and manage design team to perform construction administration services to ensure the construction meets or exceeds the intent of the design package and of high quality. Perform project design change management during the project and complete project lessons learnt during and post project completion, which includes information sharing within the data center program to ensure standard data center facilities are delivered with the utmost resiliency and quality.

Responsibilities

Project Team Coordination: Direct and coordinate design consultants, internal SMEs and key stakeholders to achieve progress milestones and complete design packages per all applicable code requirements and in alignment with our Global Data Center Reference Designs and Standards.

Incorporate best practices, industry standards, and approved emerging technologies into design frameworks.

Regulatory Compliance: Managing zoning, entitlement, and permitting processes to secure timely approvals in accordance with project schedules.

Responsive to Authority having Jurisdiction (AHJ) information requests and/or application comments to ensure efficient jurisdictional review to facilitate prompt issuance of required approvals.

Stakeholder and Contractor Engagement: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (real estate, engineering, operations, finance) and external consultants (architects, engineers, legal advisors) to align on project objectives and deliverables.

Actively engage with general and MEP contractors for design reviews, constructability assessments, and cost/schedule inputs.

Construction Administration: Supervise design teams to ensure construction administration services maintain design integrity, quality standards, and efficient mitigation of construction issues to minimize cost and schedule impacts.

Change Management: Implement and maintain an effective project design change management throughout the project lifecycle to maintain and recommend improvements to the Global Data Center Reference Design and Standards utilizing our change management request workflow process.

Quality Assurance: Ensuring data center facilities meet or exceed design intent, emphasizing resilience and quality.

Collaborate with Commissioning and QAQC teams to identify all key areas of concern and required attention.

Lesson Learned: Conduct ongoing and post-project reviews to document lessons learned and share insights across the data center program.

The Data Center Design Manager role demands a strong grasp of architectural, engineering, and construction principles specific to data centers, alongside meticulous attention to regulatory compliance and project management. Effective communication and collaboration with internal teams, consultants, and contractors are essential for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, electrical, mechanical, civil engineering, or related technical field, AIA licensed architect or master’s degree would be a plus.

Proven design management experience in data center site planning, design management, design construction administration, through project close-out.

Strong working knowledge of data center architectural design principles, site utilities, and data center critical infrastructure, including MV/LV electrical, mechanical, security, and BMS/control systems.

Proven technical depth needed to assist in running this unique space in addition to a strong background of organizational management and leadership.

Strong leadership skills, and experience in leading design teams on complex technical projects.

Familiarity with local building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental standards.

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess complex technical and business requirements.

Effective communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive consensus.

Extensive design team project management experience and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, Bluebeam, PowerPoint and other office and real estate development project management tools.

US: Hiring Range: from $104,000 - $223,500 per year. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
