Part-Time Position

20 hours per week

Wesley United Methodist Church is an open and affirming Methodist faith community in the Cal Young neighborhood of Eugene with a rich musical tradition. Our current Sunday morning worship includes a wide range of musical styles.

We are seeking a part-time Director of Music and Worship Arts. This leader will be invited to participate in planning and creating opportunities for spiritual growth and connection through music and the arts on Sunday mornings as well as throughout the week. Singing and making music in worship together is a core value of Methodism. Some of the work of this position will be to help the congregation imagine new ways of worship as well as offering spiritual nourishment as we continue to engage together. We are looking for someone to partner with us as we move into our next chapter with enthusiasm and creativity.

Demonstrates good organizational skills

Willingness to try new projects with staff and pastor

Comfortable with online recording and digital resources

Open to collaborating closely with the Pastor in worship design

Ability to lead music and rehearsals with varying skill levels of musicians

Some knowledge of and interest in traditional and modern sacred music

Some knowledge in overseeing a budget

Position Time and Hours

The position of Director of Music and Worship Arts reports directly to Wesley UMC’s Lead Pastor. The Director of Worship and Music Arts works part-time, 20 hours per week.

Compensation and Benefits

This position will be paid at a rate of $20,000 per year. It is salaried for 20 hours per week, including Sunday mornings for worship, and paid on a monthly basis. It is set by the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee).

Twenty (20) hours of Sick / Personal Leave will be provided after the 90 day of employment when at least 20 hours a week of work has been scheduled (as approved by the Pastor). No sick leave will be provided if the employee works less than 10 hours per week.

After the first complete year of employment and if the employee works at least 20 hours per week, the employee will be eligible for Paid Vacation.

This employee shall be paid for each of the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (4 hours for each holiday) after the first complete year of employment and if the employee has been working 20 or more hours per week for the three months prior to the holiday.

This part-time position does not include health insurance, retirement, or other similar benefits.

Supervision Received

The Director of Music and Worship Arts works under the supervision of the Lead Church Pastor. Task management skills, including self-starting and satisfactory completion of tasks without direct supervision, are required for this position.

Performance Evaluation

Within the first three months of employment, the Pastor and/or Staff Parish Relations Committee Member will hold an informal meeting with the employee to discuss performance.

After the completion of the six-month probationary period, an evaluation will be conducted by the Pastor and a Staff Parish Relations Committee Member.

Thereafter, an annual evaluation will be conducted by the Pastor and a member from the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
