Milne Library is a beautiful, recently renovated academic library with a dynamic and diverse staff of 27. In addition to our collections, resources, and facilities, the library is committed to student engagement and hosts many creative, educational, and fun programs throughout the year.The Collection Development, Resource Management & Sharing Department provides books, electronic databases, and other quality information resources and services to support the teaching, learning, and scholarly activities of the University's students, faculty, and staff in a welcoming and inclusive environment.Milne Library has an opening for a Library Assistant 1 who is passionate about libraries and student engagement. Reporting to the Library Assistant 2, the Library Assistant 1 performs specialized library clerical duties in support of the Collection Development, Resource Management & Sharing Department.To learn more about the University and the Department visit: neonta.edu/ or neonta.edu/academics/academic-support-services/library.Duties Description:+ Process books, audio visual materials and other physical information resources+ Process and paying invoices.+ Create records.+ Copy cataloging of all books, serials, gifts, and government documents.+ Ensure accuracy of records in the library management system+ Import and verify bibliographic record.+ Assist the removal of outdated library materials.+ Assist the acquisitions assistant in the book ordering process.+ Perform minor repairs to books in the circulating collection.+ Other opportunities include participating in student engagement and outreach programming and library operational teams.Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:Competitive Qualifications:The successful candidate must be eligible for reassignment, transfer, or reachable for appointment from the appropriate eligible list or meet the following qualifications:Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Library Assistant 1; or one-year of competitive permanent service in a clerical or secretarial position allocated to Grade 6 or higher.ORNon-competitive Qualifications:A high school diploma and one year of full-time clerical experience in a library setting.Preferred Qualifications:+ Experience with Alma library management system+ Experience processing physical information resources.+ Experience with interlibrary loanAdditional Information:This is a full-time, permanent position.*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
