Syracuse University – Open Rank Position – Television Radio Film: Directing/Production – #077297 The S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for a full-time faculty position focused on production in the Television Radio & Film (TRF) Department, to start in August, 2024. We are looking for a creative, engaging and inventive colleague who can advance the department’s reputation as a source for stand-out production talent in the entertainment industry. The rank of this position will be determined in light of the candidate’s experience: from tenure track assistant professor to professor of practice to assistant teaching professor. The successful candidate will teach a variety of production classes.

Special areas of interest in this search include:DirectingProduction DesignProduction TechnologyWe will look to this faculty member to bolster students’ understanding of and confidence in cutting-edge aspects of production practice while also connecting emerging technologies to enhance the storytelling experiences for public audiences.Depending on rank, this faculty member will teach up to three classes per semester in our two-semester academic year. Course responsibilities will be across the spectrum, from introductory to advanced-level, based on the professor’s areas of expertise. Also depending on rank, this faculty member will engage in creative activity or research or professional engagement and advancement as well as perform a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students, school and university committee work, and community engagement.Established in 1934, the Television, Radio & Film program is regarded as one of the best of its kind in the nation. The department’s 18 full-time faculty members, complemented by a specialized adjunct force, prepare future leaders in the television-radio-film and interactive media industries by introducing students to practices and systems of production, distribution and exhibition and their economic, political and social impact on the world.Alumni pursue a wide variety of careers that include work as major market (mainly New York and Los Angeles) producers, directors, writers, designers, editors, executives, media educators, agents and attorneys.
