If so, we invite you to become part of the TLC team, where you'll play a pivotal role in elevating teaching excellence by engaging our community of educators across the disciplines in equity-minded, research-based, and technology-enhanced pedagogical practices and data-informed, strategic instructional innovation at the course, curriculum, and program levels.Reporting to the Director of Instructional Design & Media Production (IDMP) in UCLA's Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), the Multimedia Designer will develop, create, and enhance media assets that contribute to both course content and strategic communications, towards advancing innovation and elevating teaching at UCLA. The Multimedia Designer (hereafter "Designer") will create digital learning assets for courses and e-learning modules used across disciplines and by audiences campuswide. The Designer will be responsible for the creation and compositing of visual content for various instructional modalities in collaboration with instructional designers, studio producers, and subject matter experts, including instructors, educational developers, and pedagogical researchers. The incumbent will apply their design expertise to various instructional use cases and build a variety of multimedia content, including graphics, animation, slide templates, simulations, immersive experiences, 3D models, and other learning asset types. In addition to the role of an artist, the Designer will also serve as a creative partner, consultant, and coach to support the development of engaging, interactive resources that convey complex concepts and create content that support effective, learner-centered delivery of course competencies and/or learning objectives. As a part of a larger Media Production team, the Designer will work with Principal Directors and Editors in the TLC recording studios to contribute to productions such as lecture videos, live events, and explorations of 3D models in Virtual/Augmented Reality.The position will take a key role in the pre-production and post-production of instructional media to enhance and expedite the delivery of final productions. The Designer will work with the team and lead instructors to add stunning graphics, develop a catalog of adaptable media assets, and produce rich, accessible content that enhances education beyond the traditional experience within the classroom. In collaboration with and under the direction of the Director of Communications & Creative Services, the Designer will also create branding assets and marketing content for the TLC website, social media, and other strategic communications channels. This position will work with the Strategic Communications team and all TLC units to develop promotional content, showcase our work, and manage a library of engaging, accessible media assets (e.g., branded templates, illustration, and graphics). The ideal candidate is forward thinking and enjoys pushing the creative boundaries to tell stories and visualize the unseen. The Designer will be experienced in communications, media production technology, and learning design strategies; possess excellent production skills with attention to aesthetic details critical to optimizing user experiences; and demonstrate the ability to build accessible media assets in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The incumbent will possess strong communication and organizational skills that facilitate close collaboration with TLC units, campus partners, and instructors serving as subject matter experts to ensure the multimedia products meets quality requirements and industry standards. Reporting to the IDMP Director, the Multimedia Designer works independently to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and create solutions to meet project goals as assigned. Performance is reviewed on an annual basis. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within the state of California. 5 Years of Experience Minimum of five years of professional design experience in multimedia. (Required) Higher Education Preferred experience working in higher education. (Preferred) ● Bachelor’s degree in related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.* Minimum of five years of professional design experience in multimedia. (Required)● Demonstrated ability to create a variety of multimedia assets (e.g., 2D illustrations, motion graphics for video assets, and 3D Environments for virtual production). (Required)● Exceptional attention to detail and typographical aesthetics. (Preferred)● Advanced knowledge of and experience in video production (including audio, cameras, and lighting), video streaming platforms (e.g., Kaltura), e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360), video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro X), and/or image editing applications (e.g., Adobe Photoshop), etc. (Preferred)● Proficiency with C4D, Blender, After Effects, Motion, or Adobe Creative Suite, with adaptability to other software like Maya, Resolve/Fusion, and other 2D/3D digital content creation tools. (Preferred)● Experience with standard office software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and/or Google Workspace equivalents; ability to learn new applications as needed. (Required)● Working knowledge of building accessible learning assets in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). (Preferred)● Familiarity with instructional design, multimedia learning theories, and visualization principles for adult learners. (Preferred)● Exceptional organizational and project management skills; ability to organize complex projects with competing and/or multiple deadlines; ability to independently solve problems. (Preferred)● Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills when engaging with diverse campus stakeholders.
