Senior Designer

A large utility comany is looking for a Senior Gas Service Designer in Kalamazoo, MI. The Senior Designer will use CAD and GIS software for utility system design and analysis, manage project documentation, collaborate with internal teams, and provide field support and construction guidance to ensure compliance with utility design standards. This is a contract position estimated to last 11 months, possible extension, possible temp to perm.ResponsibilitiesCAD and GIS Design : Utilize CAD software (e.g., MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, Open Plant) to create and modify technical drawings and designs. Incorporate design changes into existing plans and ensure all designs comply with utility design and construction standards.Project Analysis and Planning : Analyze and interpret industry standards, maps, blueprint drawings, survey data, and project scope requirements to ensure accurate and effective project designs.Collaboration and Coordination : Work closely with internal departments to review project needs, resolve issues, and coordinate tasks. This includes planning, reporting, problem-solving, and ensuring compliance with environmental and permitting requirements.Field Design and Support : Conduct site visits to collect and verify drawing data. Provide construction support, training, and general guidance as needed during project execution.Documentation : Prepare and update forms, system application data, and other documents associated with project work orders. Ensure all documentation adheres to departmental standards and procedures.QualificationsEducation: Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.Experience: 4-7 years of experience in utility operations and design, with strong proficiency in CAD software.SkillsGeneral proficiency with CAD software required, including MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, and Open Plant.Strong knowledge of utility operations and design standards.Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to take new perspectives using existing computer-based solutions.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on technical writing.Good interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across teams.Experience in project planning, coordination, and execution.
