full-time Technical Writer

to join our team. The position is located in San Diego, CA. This position has a 3 day on-site requirement (client site) and 2 remote days.Forward Slope is seeking a fast-learning technical writer to provide documentation support for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) program which is comprised of the following systems: Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System – Next Generation (NITES-NEXT), Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System – IV (NITES-IV), Meteorological Mobile Facility (Replacement) Next Generation (METMF(R) NEXGEN), and Hazardous Weather Detection and Display Capability (HWDDC).Responsibilities Include:Researching, documenting, and developing detailed operator, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, checklists, technical specifications, training materials, and other similar documents.Identifying, creating, reviewing, editing, and formalizing technical documents with requested specifications that will be used by various programs and stakeholders, including users, engineers, analysts, and sponsors.Ensuring that final documents communicate information and data clearly and effectively.Correcting technical and editorial errors and participating in rewrites as necessary.Coordinating technical reviews and approval signatures, which may include appropriate security classification prior to document distribution.Required Qualifications:Experience working in a distributed environment with engineering teams following Agile methodologies.Experience developing, editing, and formalizing technical and graphical documentation.Proficient with presenting information in the clearest and most logical sequence for greatest reader comprehension.Willing to facilitate team reviews and analyze technical documentation.Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure, and form documentation.Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team.Knowledgeable and highly proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).Proficient with working on PDFs.Can problem-solve independently and stay accountable to team members on different time zones.High proficiency in communication skills, verbal and written.Ability to work well under high demands and adapt to deadline changes as well as technical requirements.Organized and able to work with several documents at once.Desired Qualifications:Familiarity with Atlassian products, such as Confluence and Jira.Experience with MS Teams, Slack, or similar collaboration tools.Other Requirements:Currently hold an active U.S. security clearance or be able to obtain one.Hourly Range: $33.00 - $37.74 per hourJob Type: Hourly Full-TimeWhy Join Forward Slope?Fast-paced global company with a great reputation in the DoD industry for over 20 years.Flexible working hours based on job needs.Great and fun work culture.Amazing benefits package for full-time employees (including 90% employer contribution for employee medical benefits).3 weeks of PTO a year.11 paid company holidays a year.Team Building - Continuous appreciation events for our employees.Education and Professional Development – programs to help you with your educational and professional growth!Free coffee/snacks and occasional free food and so much more!Forward Slope is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled.An Equal Opportunity Employer.
