Summary:

The Grant Writer & Communications Strategist is a compelling storyteller with a history of writing persuasive pieces for various audiences. This individual will have a strong writing background and be familiar with the nonprofit sector, with a preference for those with familiarity with substance use disorder, mental health, or medical backgrounds. This position will be heavily involved in the planning, writing, and submitting of grants, both private foundation and government and will also provide writing as needed for other development tasks such as annual appeals, annual reports, brochures and marketing information and any other tasks assigned. They will also provide writing samples, talking points, press releases, and briefings for media and events to the executive leadership team. This position is heavily focused on writing and content creation and will work directly under the Director of Development. This is an in-person position with the flexibility to work remotely once a week.

Essential Areas of Responsibility

Develop and write grants, concept notes, letters of inquiry, campaign solicitations, case statements, and stewardship and compliance reports to foundations, corporations, individuals, and government agencies.Assist in maintaining a CRM-based grant tracking report.Responsible for all data in Raiser’s Edge and reports being pulled from the system.Utilizing Raiser’s Edge for gift tracking and sending out acknowledgements and thank you letters.Stay on top of, updating, and maintaining the Grant Calendar and keeping track of all deadlines.Partner with the DOD to advance the grant proposal process.Gathers statistical and other information timely from various departments to ensure grant and reporting deadlines are met.Assist with rubric development and send to executive leadership teams for review.Assist in prospect and RFP research.Attend and participate in planning processes prior to the release of major RFPs.Stay updated on significant funding trends related to the SUD, co-occurring mental health, healthcare, and help of the unhoused; including specific opportunities that are in preliminary stages of development and political regulations and programs.Utilize knowledge of funding and industry trends that can advance C|M’s mission.Attend all webinar and meetings that are related to grant opportunities.Secondary Areas of Responsibility

Content creator for digital platforms, including website, social media, and other digital platforms.Assist the Director of Development in monitoring the progress of projects funded through philanthropy and government agencies.

Regularly check-in with key persons involved in funded programs to help monitor alignment of project progress, deliverables, and timeline. The role will also communicate with the programs that oversee the grants and HR on staffing approvals in the grants for recruitment planning.

Assist in organizing and generating information that can maintain donor and funding data.Serve as a resource for C|M staff on developing written content for various programs used for marketing purposes.Writing press releases, talking points and briefings for media and executives as needed.Answer phone calls and emails.Schedule meetings.Attend scheduled meetings with key personnel.Upholding company policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned.Primary Objectives:

Supports the vision of the Executive Leadership Team and the Director of Development.Research, write and submit, and acquire grants to fund and improve the programs offered by CLARE|MATRIX.Making sure the data in Raiser’s Edge is clean and updated.Building strategic relationships.The role is a full-time, in-person position. The office is based in Santa Monica, California.Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

Successful track record of grant awards.Storyteller who can build a compelling narrative around substance use and mental health recovery treatment for a variation of medias.Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal skills.Skilled user of Microsoft Office Suite, including knowledge of data set manipulation with Excel.Knowledge of basic database queries.Detail oriented, organized, with excellent project management skills.Experience with government contracts and grant writing is highly desirable.Experience in communications writing and content development for digital platforms.Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in an active work environment with shifting needs and priorities.Ability to work collaboratively with team members.Document design, formatting, and layout skills as well as web publishing and e-newsletter distribution experience are highly desirable.Qualifications

Minimum of three to five years of experience in grant writing in a nonprofit environment.Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Experience in a relevant service area a must.The position calls for an excellent project manager who possesses a passion for philanthropy, with exemplary writing skills and proven results in soliciting funds for operating, program, and capital needs.Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Medical History:

All employees whose functions require or necessitate contact with clients or food preparation shall complete a health screening report or a health questionnaire. Health screening report or health questionnaire will be provided upon hire. For all residential employees a health screening report, be completed and signed by a medical practitioner for clearance. All outpatient employees will complete at minimum a self-report screening questionnaire.

TB test is to be conducted under licensed medical supervision not more than 60 calendar days prior to or 7 calendar days after employment and renewed annually from the date of the last tuberculosis test. Staff with a known record of tuberculosis or record of positive testing shall not be required to obtain a tuberculosis skin test. Unless there is documentation that the staff completed at least 6 months of preventive therapy, the staff shall be required to obtain, within 45 calendar days of employment, a chest x-ray result and a physician’s statement that the incumbent does not have communicable tuberculosis and has been under regular care and monitoring for tuberculosis. A chest x-ray within the prior 6 months is acceptable. The physician’s statement shall be renewed annually.
