Our client, Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking a Senior Design Manager specializing in A/E Services to manage multiple high-impact projects with a focus on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects. This role will involve leading design professionals and coordinating the District’s design processes to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:Project Management:

Manage multiple projects, with a focus on seismic and critical repair, working closely with architects, consultants, and district personnel to ensure on-time and within-budget completion.Design Coordination:

Oversee the district’s design process, ensuring that plans meet functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.Standards Compliance:

Ensure that all building designs comply with LAUSD’s standards and guidelines, meeting both educational and building codes.Firm Selection:

Establish a process to select the best-suited architectural firm for each project based on qualifications and performance standards.Communication & Direction:

Provide architects with clear direction regarding project goals, standards, schedules, and budgets.Design Review:

Develop and manage an effective design review process that aligns with the district’s objectives.Budget Management:

Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.Reporting:

Monitor project status and provide regular updates and recommendations.Value Optimization:

Ensure designs provide maximum value within the allocated budget while addressing community and environmental needs.

Minimum Requirements:Experience:

14 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordination of capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.Of this experience, 4 years must be in the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.Education:

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized university.Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:Education:

Master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.Licenses/Certificates:

Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
