General Description

The Middleton Public Library is lookin to hire Library Pages to fill the specific work schedules (one Page per schedule listed below). Applicants must be able to regularly and consistently work one of the schedules listed:

Mon and Wed 4-8 and every other Sat 9-1.

Under the general management of the Deputy Director of Public Services and the direct supervision of a Department Head, Librarian, Manager, or Supervisor the Library Page is responsible for checking in and shelving all materials, and maintaining shelf order throughout the library. This position may also be assigned other tasks which support public services, library resources, and programming.

Administrative Details:
This position is a Non-Regular Permanent Part-time position. Non-regular permanent part-time positions are not eligible for participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System. Other benefits available are dependent on the hours/status to which applicants are hired. See the benefit portion of the job posting for details.

Job Functions

Essential Duties
  • Performs alpha-numeric sorting and filing tasks.
  • Checks in returned materials on automated circulation system.
  • Empties exceptions bin and checks in materials by hand as needed.
  • Arranges returned materials on carts and reshelves them in proper order.
  • Shelf-reads and straightens materials on the shelves to maintain good order.
  • Searches the shelves for materials.
  • Physically prepares materials for circulation in accordance with processing guidelines, as needed.
  • Answers patron questions and refers questions as needed, to the appropriate staff members.
Marginal Duties
  • Performs other related job duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge
  • Able to learn library operations and technology.
Skills
  • Communication skills: effectively communicate ideas and information both in written and oral forms and in Standard English with staff and the public.
  • Reading skills: effectively read and understand information contained in memoranda, reports and other formats.
  • Time management skills: set priorities and follow through to meet assignment deadlines.
Abilities
  • Ability to understand and perform routine library tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public.
  • Ability to sort efficiently in alphabetic or number order, and to develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal system of library materials arrangement.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work.
  • Ability to maintain a regular work schedule.
Education, Training and Experience

Education
  • Some high school.
Training
  • Eligible for a Child Labor permit, if required.

  • No experience required.

The benefits listed on this page are available to employees in City of Middleton Non-regular, Classified Service who are considered part-time. Non-regular part-time status means the employee is regularly scheduled for, and working, 22 or less hours per week hours per week. Non-regular, Classified Service positions ar not eligible to participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System, but are listed on the City's classified Salary Plan.
