BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of around 360 million globally, including TV, digital platforms such as social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.

All Language Services are multiplatform, including a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text and interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms.

The role is part of the Arabic Digital Production Hub.

Main responsibilities

As Senior Journalist Field Producer, you will work with bilingual correspondents, producing in the field at short notice, you'll also lead on commissioning and shaping ideas in collaboration with colleagues working on multiple platforms. You'll also:

Produce in the field in the US and overseas, including in hostile environmentsCreate original content for digital audiencesHelp develop content from reporters and pioneer new ways of workingScript edit, package, and compile impactful content for digital, social, radio, and TV platformsEnsure all content complies with BBC Editorial Guidelines and legal obligationsEnsure all assignments are appropriately risk-assessedEnsure suitable commissions are available in English for use by other languagesLiaise with language services, bureaux, and output teams across the World Service and wider BBC News

Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in the role you must have excellent command of English and Arabic, also:A highly skilled producer: calm, organised, and efficient, with proven field experience and sound editorial ability and creativityGood working knowledge of news systems and understanding of audiences and output for language servicesAbility to juggle competing demands and handle a constantly changing news agendaFamiliarity with the roles of output and content teams (Planning/Digital Output/Assignment desk)Proven experience in producing and planning digital-first text, vertical shorts, and social treatmentsAbility to adapt to different audiences and mediaHigh standard of editorial judgement, writing ability, and production skills based on extensive journalistic experienceExcellent record of producing on-the-day and planned digital video content, with strong SEO awareness for global audiencesAbility to source, commission, and produce digital content for multiple language service audiencesProven ability in collaborative editorial teamworkExpertise in creating, overseeing, and subbing videos, with essential craft video production and editing skills and knowledge of emerging video trendsCommitted to inclusivity and prioritizing underserved audiences in all aspects of content creation and collaboration

Up to $100,000 per annum gross, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
