Req #45Friday, August 16, 2024The Los Angeles Times has a part-time, temporary opening for a talented and energetic photojournalist. The successful applicant will work closely with our award-winning photography team and editors to create the most effective visual display for print and digital platforms. The ideal candidate should have strong photography, journalism and visual storytelling skills. The applicant must be an excellent communicator and able to work well in a team environment.Responsibilities:Cover a variety of assignments including breaking news, features, entertainment and sportsCreate high-end portraits as neededWork closely with supervisor/photo editors on a daily basis to enhance photojournalism skillsWrite accurate, thorough, error-free captionsGenerate and execute visual story ideasRequirements:A minimum of five years of journalism experienceExcellent photographic skills; can produce cover-worthy photos for every section of the paperExcellent studio and lighting skillsAbility to work independently, with minimal supervisionAbility to work effectively under deadline pressuresExcellent news judgmentStrong problem-solving skillsHigh level of professionalism and enthusiasm at all timesFirm sense of journalistic ethicsThorough knowledge of current software and use of remote transmission and communication systemsA good communicator and able to work well in a team environmentMust have current driver’s licenseThis part-time, temporary position is expected to last six months and will be based in El Segundo, Calif. The photographer will work a Sunday-to-Wednesday schedule. .The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $39.10 to $44.98 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A. Times, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
