The Position

The Opportunity:We’re seeking an experienced comms expert to join our Executive Communications team. This person will be able to develop communications plans and strategies, see them through to completion and connect the dots with other projects and priorities. They will work on traditional executive and internal communications and must be dedicated to supporting our executives’ commitment to communicating authentically, transparently and without jargon. It’s a fast-paced, influential role within an experienced and high-energy team.On a day-to-day basis, this person will work on strategic projects that support all employees and the Genentech Executive Committee but they will not be 1:1 “aligned” to a single leader. This is by design! On the team, we each have areas of expertise and preferred muscles to flex, but we also pitch in together. We do better work – and have more fun – when we’re nimble.This person is accountable for:Helping to develop and execute integrated internal and executive communications and visibility plans for Genentech leadersSupporting many types of communications for and by our Genentech Executive CommitteeProviding keen, innovative and fit-for-purpose guidance for our functional stakeholders and partners across the businessSupporting the development of a systematic approach for functional communications support, including enhanced collaboration across Genentech’s cross-functional internal communicators networkParticipating and/or driving special projects with cross-functional teams. Examples include defining our company narrative on a particular topic, planning the opening celebration for a new lab, preparing for crisis comms scenariosDelivering compelling company-wide meetings, including Town Halls and highly-subscribed virtual Office Hours, that bring the business narrative and Our Promise to life through original content and innovative solutionsCherish and uphold a team culture of belonging, innovation, enterprise-level thinking, creativity, curiosity, collaboration and impactMeasuring and analyzing data from our comms choices to ensure we’re having the right impact and meeting our goalsWho you arePLEASE NOTE: If you believe you meet the minimum qualifications (marked as required) to do the work we have described here, and if you are excited about the work, we encourage you to apply even if you are not sure you meet every preferred qualification (marked as preferences). 5+ years directly supporting high-level executives5+ years of internal communications experience

Superlative writing skills – including an aversion to “corpspeak,” a focus on warmth, attention to audience, a love of storytelling and iron-clad instincts for distilling complicated informationAn ability to balance multiple projects with differing deadlines and differing skillsets needed to accomplish themPassion for working collaboratively, comfort working flexibly and a cool head under pressureVerve and creativity – we like to discover new things and we like to try old things in new ways. This role is based out of our South San Francisco Genentech Campus. There may be intermittent needs in this role for travel to internal or external meetings, though they will likely be infrequent.The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $162,400 to $301,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
