This is a full-time, permanent Health Services Consultant 3 position.Make a differenceJoin the Washington State Department of Health as a Breastfeeding Promotion Consultant (HSC3). This role supports the Office of Nutrition Services (ONS) within the Division of Prevention and Community Health (PCH), in advancing the mission of promoting and supporting breastfeeding, increasing access to healthy foods, and enhancing community health.Position Overview:This Breastfeeding Promotion Consultant focuses on delivering breastfeeding and nutrition consultation and training through community-based and culturally grounded approaches. Your expertise will serve initiatives such as the Loving Support Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program (PC program) and WIC Breastfeeding Promotion. Additionally, they provide guidance to DOH staff and various contractors and partners.Key Responsibilities :Professional Consultation and Statewide CoordinationAct as a leading expert for the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program (BFPC Program) and provide comprehensive consultation to local WIC agencies, ONS, and department staff.Coordinate state-wide training initiatives for the BFPC Program, including annual planning, budgeting, reporting, and virtual/in-person training sessions.Engage in monthly BFPC webinars, facilitate content for the DOH BFPC Facebook page, and ensure compliance with WIC policies at assigned local agencies.Work collaboratively with WIC and other DOH Partners to plan, implement, and evaluate key activities and initiatives to meet BFPC program goals.DOH Staff and Contractor Training on Breastfeeding PromotionOffer specialized consultation and training on WIC breastfeeding promotion, emphasizing culturally relevant and community-based approaches.Partner with ONS Training and Communications Team to develop electronic breastfeeding education resources.Review content and provide feedback on breastfeeding education materials, ensuring alignment with current guidelines and policies.WIC Client Services Section and Breastfeeding Unit CollaborationProvide consultation on WIC policy inquiries via the WIC 800 telephone line and engage in policy research, development, and review.Contribute to WIC and DOH workgroups, participate in training sessions, and support policy discussions to ensure regulatory compliance and current medical literature integration.Work SettingThe duty station for this position is Tumwater, WA. Employees will be supported to choose the location in which they do their best work. This position can support telework, in-office, or a combination. DOH supports a hybrid workplace.Required QualificationsExperience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities.

Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Health Education, Public Health, Public Administration, Biology or related field from an accredited academic institution,
ANDOne (1) or more years’ experience working in a public health program that provides services to the WIC population.Two (2) or more years’ experience developing and delivering training to local WIC staff.Two (2) or more years working to promote and support lactation and the use of human milk among diverse populations.OROption 2:

ANDOne (1) or more years’ experience working in WIC or a public health program that provides services to the WIC population, at the state or local level.Two (2) or more years’ experience developing and delivering training to local WIC staff.Application ProcessIntrigued?
