Overview of The Callier CenterThe mission of the Callier Center for Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas is to transform the lives of those with communication disorders by providing leading-edge clinical services, conducting meaningful and innovative basic and applied research into new treatments and technologies and to train the next generation of caring clinical providers.As one of the nation’s preeminent centers of treatment, training and research in audiology, speech-language pathology and communication disorders, the Callier Center has been dedicated to helping children and adults with speech, language and hearing disorders connect with the world around them since 1963. The Callier Center is the only area of the University of Texas at Dallas that provides medical treatment to patients.Callier’s audiology and speech-language pathology clinic – one of the largest in Texas – provides evaluation and treatment for communication disorders including hearing impairment, deafness, language delay, articulation delay, motor speech disorders (apraxia and dysarthria), fluency disorders, oral-motor/feeding disorders, auditory/ language processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders, brain injury and other neurological disorders and social communication disorders.The clinic itself requires a minimum of $2M in annual philanthropic support to operate. Additionally, funds are raised for special projects, capital campaigns, educational needs and research initiatives, all expanding Callier’s annual fundraising goals beyond the clinic’s operational needs.Minimum Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree with ten years of work experience in related field.Preferred Education and ExperienceThe position requires an experienced fundraiser with management, leadership and fundraising skillsets. Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of development experience in a nonprofit or university settingMajor and principal gift fundraising experience with a track record of securing transformational giftsAt least three years of management and leadership experience with proven ability to implement programs and drive results in a collaborative environmentStrategic planning skills with the ability to create and hone fundraising processesExperience building a robust gift pipeline that aligns the needs of the unit with donor motivation and interestsExpertise in forging strong relations with external constituents as well as with internal constituents (faculty and staff)Proficiency in cultivating and maintaining relationships with corporations and foundations with major giving capacityLeadership experience with boards of trustees and other volunteer groupsDemonstrated experience with building teams and team culture, mentoring and developing leadership capabilityOutstanding speaking, writing and time management skillsEssential Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations ( AVP ) and working in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) of the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, the Senior Director serves on the executive leadership team of the Callier Center and is one of five departmental leaders for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In partnership with the

AVP

and ED, this position is responsible for all development and fundraising activities of the Callier Center. The Senior Director manages a team of six full-time staff, including two directors of development, a director of development communications, an assistant director of annual giving, a development associate, and a financial analyst. Additionally, this role, in partnership with the ED, is responsible for:Managing a portfolio of major and principal gift donors with an expected personal annual raise of $2M+ and supporting and guiding the development and management of Callier’s major gift pipeline to meet fundraising goals;Managing a team of six employees and working collaboratively with peers in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations;Planning and executing a potential new capital campaign;Serving on the leadership team at the Callier Center, including attending weekly leadership team meetings;Responsible for departmental strategies, goals, policies and controls including budgeting, annual fundraising goals and projections, communication strategies, major and principal gift strategies, annual giving strategies, event strategies and execution, gift processing, stewardship, vendor procurement and management, gifts and endowment audits, donor impact reports, an annual audit of and coordination with the Lena Callier Trust and leadership volunteer recruitment, among other duties;Serving as the primary liaison to the Foundation for the Callier Center and Communication Disorders trustees, including attending and organizing all committee meetings;Coordinating and managing with the appropriate foundation committees: audit, tax, and budgeting for the foundation, annual new trustee nominations process, new trustee orientation, review of board meeting minutes, supporting foundation leadership in updates to policies and legal documents for the foundation, among other critical supporting duties for the foundation.Physical Demands and Working Conditions
