DEFINITIONAssists the Marketing and Special Events Coordinator with planning City events and assists with marketing campaigns in social media, advertising, direct marketing, and event planning.

To be successful as a Specialist in this position, the candidate must be highly self-motivated, proactive, creative, organized, and a team player. They must have a working knowledge of marketing and event planning.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Marketing & Events Coordinator.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Assist in coordinating, promoting and implementing a variety of recreation and City events, including creating, preparing, and distributing flyers and graphics in person and on social media, building and maintaining relationships with vendors, creating detailed maps and layouts, and maintaining a safe environment throughout the duration of the activity, program, or event.Respond to inquiries or requests for information from interested community groups and citizens.Participate in event meetings; assist in evaluating program techniques and content. Conduct research, make site visits, and find resources to help staff organize events.Serve as liaison with vendors on event-related matters.Prepare and submit program and event attendance reports.Will be required to perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and record keeping.Assists in taking photos and/or videos for programs or during events.Coordinate Facebook posts and correspondence for the department Facebook page.Must be able to work well with small business owners, apply for county permits, and manage recreation events and budgets.Assist departments with edits to the City website.Create graphics, newsletters, and articles for monthly e-mail marketing pieces.Assist as part of the Emergency Operations Center team and performs related duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSFor indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to dust, mites, and radiation hazards; exposure to constant noise and extreme heat; writing; walking; typing; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; filing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, by two-way radio, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of a personal computer, and calculator.

Assist in coordinating, organizing, and implementing recreation and leisure time activities and specialized events.Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new or ongoing recreation offerings.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Some experience in Marketing & Event planning and a High School Diploma or GED. A degree or Certificate in Marketing is preferred.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License. Possession of, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire, an Emergency First Aid and a valid C.P.R.
