Program Associate, Human Centered Design & Facilitation

under Data for Decisions in Nutrition (DataDENT), an initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to build strong nutrition data value chains to support multisectoral nutrition policy and program decision making within and across low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).You will provide expertise in human-centered design and apply this expertise to leading the Data for Nutrition (DfN) Community of Practice and contributing to ongoing DataDENT research, design of outputs, and stakeholder engagement activities.DfN provides members from diverse contexts with opportunities to share their knowledge, experience, and questions relevant to strengthening the nutrition data value chain. You will be responsible for implementing the Data for Nutrition CoP, supporting the design and implementation of member engagement activities, and actively networking with individuals and institutions to strengthen engagement with and sustainability of the platform.You will contribute to the team carrying out formative human-centered research activities related to the design of nutrition indicators and questions for collection in household surveys, including participating in design and field work related to training and supervision of data collection teams.You will lead and support special technical output design and stakeholder engagement projects related to dissemination and uptake of DataDENT research, including oversight of the Demographic Health Survey (DHS) revision process.You will work closely with the JHBSPH faculty and staff, country focal points in Ethiopia and Nigeria, and colleagues from partner institutions, including International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Results for Development (R4D) who will lead related technical work.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesData for Nutrition CoP Facilitation (40%)Actively facilitate a community of practice focused on nutrition data and information systems, that brings together experts, practitioners, and stakeholders.Monitor CoP and topic-related communications channels to identify content relevant to and/or produced by members and facilitate its sharing through various CoP platforms (e.g., Mobilize Community Platform, DfN Social Media Platforms: X, LinkedIn, YouTube).Identify interests and priorities of CoP members and support development of collaborative outputs and capacity strengthening opportunities.Organize monthly virtual webinars or other knowledge-sharing events to foster collaboration and the exchange of expertise and experience across CoP members.Act as a liaison between the community and DataDENT team, ensuring alignment with overall goals.Oversee development of a steering committee and sustainability planning.Develop and implement metrics to measure the effectiveness of community of practice, and quality improvement activities.Formative Research Support – India & Bangladesh (20%)Support formative research activities around maternal nutrition coverage measurement being carried out in India with local partner Vitamin Angels – India.Facilitate weekly research team meeting to track study progress.Support enumerator training - prepare materials and travel to field to support facilitation.Provide remote TA for study implementation and review of findings.Lead analysis of incoming data and draft communications about study findings.Provide remote support to questionnaire adaptation for Bangladesh with research partner iccdr’b.Design & dissemination of technical outputs (40%)Apply human-centered design principles to create technical outputs and stakeholder engagement approaches that are user-friendly, engaging, and accessible.Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights into the needs, preferences, and behaviors of the target audience(s).Develop personas and user journeys to guide the design of technical outputs and communications materials.Develop and implement global stakeholder engagement strategies related to specific DataDENT areas of work (e.g. DHS-9 review process).Co-organize and co-facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, and events to gather feedback, build consensus, and ensure stakeholders are informed and engaged.Monitor and evaluate stakeholder engagement activities to measure effectiveness and document learning.Special Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong writing, editing, and presentation skills.Content knowledge related to public health nutrition and/or information systems in low and middle-income countries.Proficiency in digital tools and software for content creation and management.Familiarity with video conferencing, online forums, and other virtual communication tools.Excellent interpersonal and relationship building / networking skills.Strong project management and organizational abilities.Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.Prior experience within community management, facilitation, or a related role.Experience working in cross cultural teams in LMIC setting.Ability to work independently to complete tasks, work with others to problem solve and ask for support as required.Ability to multi-task, adapt to changing circumstances and respond to the needs and interests of project and community members.Culturally sensitivity and how to engage across potential cultural differences in communication and collaboration.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in related discipline.Three years related experience.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in human nutrition, public health, communications or related field plus at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Training and/or experience in Human-Centered Design.Classified Title: Sr. Research Program CoordinatorJob Posting Title (Working Title): Program Associate: Human Centered Design & FacilitationRole/Level/Range: ACRP/03/MBStarting Salary Range: $41,300 -
