Overview

The Local, Faith-based, and Transformative Partnerships Hub, within USAID’s Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation (IPI/LFT), is seeking Short-Term Technical Assistance (STTA) to support the IPI/LFT Locally Led Development Initiatives (LLDI) programs. In this role, the selected candidate will help to produce, review, and copy edit internal and external communications products.The LLDI programs in IPI/LFT work toward the day when foreign assistance is no longer needed, and empowered local actors lead and sustain their own development. Through funding and technical leadership, these initiatives provide USAID Missions and staff with the knowledge, skills, tools, and resources to ensure that development assistance is locally led. These initiatives include the flagship Local Works program, the Small Project Assistance Program and Global Agreement with Peace Corps, a number of co-created research and development initiatives under the Broad Agency Announcement for Locally Led Development Innovation, and the Locally Led Development Annual Program Statement. Also supported under the Local Works program is the sub-program entitled Unsolicited Solutions for Locally Led Development (US4LLD); a funding opportunity for meritorious, unsolicited applications that advance locally led development.

Responsibilities

The Communications Pod for the Locally Led Development Initiatives (LLDI) team is looking for remote STTA support at up to 28 days of LOE beginning in August 2024 and continuing through November 22, 2024, to support tasks during a parental leave. Expected working hours for this short-term, remote support role are flexible; however, the selected candidate must be available during the window of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Central time for meetings, as needed. General tasks will include:Document review and copy editing supportDocument formatting and standardizationGeneral communications tasks as neededTasks to be completed will include, but are not limited to:Provide communications support for materials development before, during and after the Local Works Africa Learning Summit (October 7-11), including but not limited to:Prior to Summit, review, copy edit, and standardize approximately:20 slide decks20 facilitation guides (3-5 pp/guide)60 learning materials (2-3 per session x 15 sessions and up to 5 plenary sessions)1 participant packet, 30-40 ppDuring Summit, review, copy edit, and standardize materials as neededAfter Summit, support development of a blog, two-pager, and/or slide deck about the event, which may include both materials development and copy editingProvide copy editing support for LLDI team materials, which may include:Malawi Internal Evaluation and Annexes (~45 pp)Burma Case Study (~30 pp)Stakeholder Analysis Comparison Table (~4 pp)Agency Learning and Evidence (ALE) Month post-event products (pp TBC)Other new LLDI products, such as the Local Works Plus-Up Guidance, Local Works Checklist for New Missions, etc. (pp TBC)Provide support for general communications tasks, which may include:Story development, including interviews, drafting, and/or copy editingCopy editing for other materials and products not yet announced

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, international relations, or relevant field;At least five years of experience in communications, copy editing, content management, and/or journalism; OR a Master’s Degree and three years of relevant experience.Familiarity with the field of international development;Exceptional written, analytic, and oral communication skills;Strong project management and coordination skills, with the ability to work with diverse colleagues and partners;Impeccable customer service, attention to detail, and organizational skills;Experience writing short- and long-form impact stories for a variety of audiences and platforms;Ability to multitask, prioritize as necessary, meet short deadlines, and approach work with a sense of urgency, follow-through, and flexibility;Proficiency in Google G Suite, particularly Google Docs and Google Slides;Preferred RequirementsAbility to support a geographically and culturally diverse range of stakeholders;USAID or similar organization experience preferred.
