The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University is seeking a qualified Communication and Outreach Manager to enhance the department's presence and communicate its impact within the university and externally to further advance its mission and vision. Reporting to the Department Chair for Animal Sciences, the Communication and Outreach Manager will:Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate effective communication and outreach strategies related to the research, teaching, and Extension missions of the department.Work with the chair, faculty, and staff (individually and in groups) on promotional strategies for the work of the department and its people through the development of printed and online materials.Repurpose existing content to engage employees, alumni, and stakeholders.Develop effective communication materials for student recruitment and promotion of accomplishments by students, staff, and faculty.Organize and implement the department's online presence by serving as developer and managing editor for the departmental website, newsletter, blogs, social media, and other promotional endeavors aimed at current, future and former students, college and university audiences, and outside stakeholders.Assist departmental leadership with annual reporting as it relates to communicating the impact of Animal Sciences programs.Stay current with new developments in media and communications methods and technologies and apply innovative communication strategies that engage diverse audiences.Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.Required:

Bachelor's Level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in communication or journalism.Desired:

Master's level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in communication or journalism.Required Experience:

Experience in journalism and/or communications; ability to lead communications initiatives, website design and management; experience with social media platforms; must be collaborative and work well in a diverse team-oriented environment with superior verbal and written communications skills. 2 years relevant experience required.Desired Experience:

Ability to effectively write, edit, and proofread across multiple writing styles. Ability to work independently and with groups. 2-4 relevant years of experience desired.Responsibilities Breakdown:60% - Oversees all digital and print media for the department; collaborates with Animal Sciences faculty, staff, and students to showcase and publicize departmental accomplishments and/or events; collaborates with CFAES marketing and communications team to ensure consistent branding and compliance; designs, creates, and edits department digital and print publications for academic audiences; proactively gathers information for publications.30% - Develops web content for strategic narratives and storytelling; actively engages faculty, staff, and students to improve current and maintain ongoing communication practices; uses web analytics to evaluate reach and impact.10% - Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.This job profile is Marketing and Communications Specialist 2 (S2) on the career roadmap.The offer for this position will be based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
