Digital Journalist

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK :The primary function of this position is to produce, shoot, and edit both short and long-form news stories, promotional video pieces, public service announcements, and documentary-style productions using an array of digital and multimedia tools. As a mission-driven, values-centered organization, the expectation of senior leaders is to model ‘The Germantown Way’ at all times for those they influence and interact with daily.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :Video production, to include: story development, planning, script-writing, filming, editing, and proofing videos.Participate in the development of communication strategies with other members of the marketing communications team.Execute marketing strategy through social media campaigns and facilitating departmental trainings.Assist with the development of new digital communications initiatives.Assist with various marketing and engagement programs online and on multiple social media channels.Manage the City’s public broadcasting channel by creating and scheduling content for broadcast.Provide work direction to and review the work of temporary and/or contract employees.Research and provide audio and visual support.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :Performs related tasks as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :Technical knowledge of video and film production equipment.Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software.Knowledge of storytelling, journalism, and social media marketing.Skilled in cinema cameras such as DSLR, Drone, Adobe Suite, and various camera technology.Skilled in audio equipment, lighting equipment, and non-commercial public, educational, and government channel software.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, video and film production, creative media production, strategic/digital media, or a related field. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Remote pilot certification required. Valid TN driver’s license.WORKING CONDITIONS :Work is performed primarily in an office setting.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This position requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, balancing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion.
