A place where reporters, videographers, and digital gurus are delivering work across diverse creative platforms, industries and borders.And we are looking for a Motion Graphics Designer to join our growing team.THE JOB:The Motion Designer will work closely with video and social producers to create motion graphic elements that elevate storytelling, add additional context, and improve audience engagement.This candidate will contribute to the conceptualization and execution of the AJC’s visual identity. They will contribute to projects, build bespoke graphics, and create templates that can be easily implemented across video and social teams.This candidate is responsible for executing projects with guidance from creative leadership, including asset gathering, rotoscoping, versioning, template creation and overall design. This person must be able to take an existing design and execute it across a series of videos, while aiding in the creation of original, new designs. In this role, the designer will also create still graphics that improve audience engagement across social and AJC articles and platforms.The ideal candidate is a voracious consumer of digital video and social platforms in its many forms. Strong editorial judgment and a knowledge of the digital and documentary landscape is required. Superior design, post-production, graphic and motion design is a must.The Motion Designer will report to the Creative Director and must have strong design sensibility, experience in a deadline driven environment, technical skills with digital graphics and animations, and the ability to handle larger and more complex projects. This candidate is self-motivated, well-organized and eager to find creative solutions to challenging problems.Additional Responsibilities:Conceptualize and develop franchise and series treatments that are on brand, highly creativeWork independently and collaborativelySupport video producers in the implementation of graphics and templatesProactively identify problems and find creative solutionsJuggle various short- and long-term projects while maintaining overall qualityDesign thumbnails, headers, hero images and other supporting editorial imagery to elevate articles, our home page experience, and content on social platforms (ie: IG)Contribute to workflows operate within the context of defined proceduresCreate engaging, innovative, and relevant contentMaintain a consistent look and feel across all AJC platforms and social channelsConceptualize new ideas for daily videos, series, and franchisesStrong communication skills, excellent teamwork and team-building skills

Technical Qualifications and Design Tools:Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere and the ability to create and implement mogrtsApple Keynote, Microsoft PowerPointMaxon Cinema 4D or similar 3d software, advance rendering techniquesCanvaBasic knowledge of Figma, a plusMonday.com, Airtable or similar

Qualifications:Bachelors degree with 4+ years of experience OR MS + 2 years or 8 years with no formal degree.Works well under pressureExtensive experience working in a fast-paced, news environmentOutstanding editorial judgment, critical and strategic thinking, and organization skillsBasic editing and post-production skills; knowledge of Davinci and color science, a plus.Strong communication skills, excellent teamwork and team-building skillsMust be willing to work flexible hours and/or holidays and weekends as dictated by the news cycle or business needs
