We are seeking individuals who share our commitment to equity and inclusion and reflect the community we serve.The City of East Lansing, Mich., a residential community of nearly 49,000 people and home to Michigan State University, is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist.This position reports to the Communications Director and will be responsible for a variety of external and internal communications for the City, including the creation and posting of written content for the City’s website, online and print newsletters, social media, news releases, and more. Additionally, this position will assist with special communication campaigns, public relations, and media strategies.Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications, public relations, advertising/marketing, or a related degree and four or more years of experience working in a communications field is preferred, but may be substituted with equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

Knowledge of AP Style, Web Content Management systems, Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.), Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and InDesign), and Social Media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, utilizing correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Ability to communicate public policy and local government news to a diverse audience.
