JOB SUMMARY:

The Research and Development Engineer will be primarily involved in producing concepts, designs, performance calculations, failure analysis and drawings for material handling equipment and systems. The engineer will be responsible for working with other designers or engineering sub-contractors engaged in prototype design and development activities. The engineer will be responsible for testing prototypes and creating test reports. The engineer will calculate application loads and stresses on parts and assemblies. The engineer will also calculate power requirements for moving equipment. Based on these calculations, the engineer will design parts and select components (e.g. electric motors, gearboxes, chains, belts, sprockets, etc.) as required for the application. The engineer will familiarize themselves with manufacturing operations and methods to incorporate best practices of

‘Design for Manufacturing’ .Additional duties may include creation of drawing and documentation packages, as well as simulation or oversight of simulation. This position may also require field support of existing products and remediation of customer concerns.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The ability to research and apply new designs and technologiesFamiliarity with Inventor (or other 3D) software to design parts, weldments and bolt-together assembliesThe ability to calculate static and dynamic loads and stressesThe ability to calculate motion profiles and timing chartsThe ability to calculate and select power transmission componentsThe ability to create drawings for fabrication and assemblyKnowledge of AC motors & DC servo motorsKnowledge of pneumatic, vacuum and hydraulic componentsThe ability to communicate and collaborate with others and other departmentsThe ability to use basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, and OutlookThe ability to work within a time sensitive environmentThe ability to adapt to changing prioritiesThe ability to travel as requiredQUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Graduate engineering degree a plus. (3+) years of machine or prototype design experience. Machine controls experience is a plus. Experienced using Inventor (or other) 3D modeling software.This job description describes the general nature and level of work expected of a person assigned to this position. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
